Burnley v Aberdeen Betting Preview – UEFA Europa League 2nd August 7.45pm

This tie always looked as if it was going to be a close contest and that was just what it turned out to be in the first leg. Burnley needed a late goal to produce a 1-1 draw but they were second best for large periods of the game at Pittodrie. Aberdeen put on a really strong showing but they will have been disappointed in the end not to have come away with the win. The pressure is now on them to score at Turf Moor.

Burnley News and Form

The Clarets will have been happy to have gotten through their first competitive match of the summer unscathed. It was not a great performance though from the Premier League side at Pittodrie. They didn’t have much cohesion or creativity going on and they were clearly lacking that match sharpness. They rescued a 1-1 draw with a goal from Sam Vokes ten minutes from time which will have lifted them. It puts them in the driving seat now with home advantage to come and the away goal.

This is Burnley’s first European action in just over half a decade but they got a rough ride from a very committed Aberdeen side. The Clarets lost keeper Nick Pope just after ten minutes on the clock and they gave up the first goal of the game from the penalty spot. In the second half Burnley did start to get on the ball much more and probed away but they were lacking creativity and quality of getting balls into the box. We are going under 1.5 goals for 3/1 odds at bet365* (Betting Odds were taken from July 28th, 2018 at 10:43 p.m.). There is plenty of life left in this tie though with the scoreline level.

Aberdeen News and Form

Aberdeen impressed in that first leg on home soil as they were really brave and bold in their approach. They showed a lot of strength as well and they had chances to have gotten a second goal on the board. They were very good at the back though showing a lot of strength against Burnley attack. They looked as if they were going to hold out for a 1-0 win until ten minutes from time. While they played very well and took the game to their English opponents at times, they were second in possession and shots at goal in the match and will know that they are going to have a hard time at Turf Moor breaking down the Clarets.

We are rolling with both teams not to score at 4/6 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from July 28th, 2018 at 10:43 p.m.) because of Burnley base a lot of their game on defence. The Dons came home second to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership last season and if they have made it to the third qualifying round of the Europa league for each of the last four campaigns. They haven’t been further though. Aberdeen are W2 D3 L2 in their last seven Europa League qualifiers and are currently alternating between a loss and a win their last five road games.

Burnley v Aberdeen Predictions

You would have to worry a little more about the defence of Aberdeen than that of Bunrley and on the basis of that, we have to stick with the home side getting the job done here. Aberdeen were good in front of home support in the first leg, but Burnley have the grit at Turf Moor to produce and we are backing a 1-0 correct score in favour of the Clarets.
