Those on the frontline

This, of course, would not be supporting anyone specifically. Instead, it would be a respectful celebration of the brave work being done on the frontline by medics on a global basis who are fighting the pandemic.

With selfless work continuing to battle the outbreak, there’s little surprise that this has been a market mover.

Wherever you look currently on social media, there are stories of medics who are putting themselves in danger, isolating themselves from their own families to try and stem the flow of infections from Covid-19 which has now surpassed half a million people worldwide.

Dr Li Wenliang not eligible

Dr Li Wenliang who tried so hard to warn Chinese authorities about the outbreak, is perhaps the most famous of the front line campaigners in the fight against Covid-19.

He received a visit from the police because of his “rumours”. He was told to sign a letter by the Public Security Bureau basically stating his claims were false.

The doctor had been working at the centre of the outbreak when he noticed a virus like Sars (the 2003 epidemic). Upon his discovery, he had and tried to warn other doctors.

Instead, he was shut down, even at the time he didn’t know exactly what it was. But no guidance came from his discoveries to protect doctors.

Dr Li Wenliang died in early February from the virus. He had blogged on January 10th about his symptoms. Just 10 days after that China announced an emergency over the outbreak.

The Nobel Peace Prize cannot be awarded posthumously.

Others in the 2020 Nobel Prize Picture

Environmental campaigner Greta Thunberg was the favourite for the 2019 Nobel Peace Priz. Instead, the Nobel Committee in Oslo announced that Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed won the award.

He is largely known for liberal reforms in the country, known for its conservatism.

Abiy Ahmed won praise for supporting women, including filling over half of his ministerial positions with women.

Greta Thunberg is the current 3/1 second-favourite in the market with fellow environmentalist David Attenborough behind at 12/1* (betting odds taken from Ladbrokes at 22:04 GMT on Thursday, 26th March 2020)
