The protests by NFL players who have been taking a knee during the national anthem before matches has been growing. It was seen at Wembley this weekend ahead of the Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars game. US President Donald Trump has thrown massive fuel on this fire by saying that any players who do it should be fired.

This all started with Colin Kaepernick in 2016, during Barack Obama’s tenure as US President. The then San Francisco 49er began kneeling and sitting during the American national anthem in order to protest what he sees as a social injustice against minorities in the United States. The movement has now grown, especially after Trump got himself into a Twitter spat with several sports stars.

Players are joining the “take a knee” movement on the protest of racial inequality in the USA. It is a protest against the flag which is supposed to be protecting them. Paddy Power have now put a price of 3/1 on an England player joining the movement by taking a knee during God Save the Queen in their next match at Wembley. That next match will be on October 5th as the Three Lions host Slovenia in World Cup 2018 qualifying.

The movement is gaining so much momentum now that Paddy Power have a price of 2/5 that both Super Bowl teams have a player take the knee. Trump is a 4/1 price to attend the match while you have a huge 33/1 shot that any NFL player is fired for their protests. NFL owners, even those who have supported Trump are backing their players and their rights to protest. Trump is a 66/1 shot to by his own NFL franchise.

Asked about the goings-on in the NFL spokesman Paddy Power said: “I don’t know if Trump has shares in Twitter, but his use of the social media platform appears to be single-handedly keeping it relevant.

“And you know he isn’t one to back down – so I wouldn’t rule out him buying an NFL or NBA franchise just to sack someone.”
