Bournemouth the favourites in Premier League relegation betting

The leading contender for the drop this season, according to the bookmakers, is Bournemouth. The Cherries are 2/5 odds-on favourites in fact in Premier League relegation betting odds* (odds recorded at 21:38 GMT on August 4th, 2022 at Bet365).

Bournemouth earned a return to the top tier after finishing in second place in last season’s Championship. Under Scott Parker, they have a manager who has experienced life in the Premier League before.

The big concern for Bournemouth is really where the goals are going to come from. Dominic Solanke was fantastic in last season’s Championship for them. Translating that up to the top level is going to heap a ton of pressure on his shoulders.

Solanke scored 29 league goals last season. The former Chelsea and Liverpool player scored only three times during his last season in the Premier League.

Bournemouth have been fairly quiet in the summer transfer market as well. Their big capture was £12m man Marcus Tavernier. They could need a lot more than that, but the Cherries don’t appear to have the money to throw at this.

Can Super Cooper get Nottingham Forest safe?

It’s only natural that the newly promoted teams are among the front runners for Premier League relegation. It happens every season.

So next, we look at Nottingham Forest, the winners of last season’s Championship playoffs. Forest are back in the Premier League for the first time since the 1998/99 season.

Steve Cooper is an excellent manager and has done so well with the club. There is plenty there to build on and considering Forest were bottom of the Championship when he took over, it was a remarkable outcome.

Nottingham Forest have been busy in the summer transfer market. Dean Henderson and Jesse Lingard are great captures for them in terms of quality and experience.

Still, Nottingham Forest are 5/4 in Premier League relegation betting* (odds recorded at 21:38 GMT on August 4th, 2022 at Bet365).

The club splashed out a club record for striker Taiwo Awoniyi from Bundesliga side Union Berlin. The Nigerian scored 15 goals in 31 appearances for them last season. Forest needs some of that cutting edge from him in the top flight.

Fulham going back down?

Up and down, up and down is the story of Fulham’s recent seasons, which have alternated between the Championship and top flight over the last six campaigns. Will they once again fall straight back to the second tier following promotion?

They found the going fairly easy in the Championship last season, lifting the title. They moved into the driving seat in January and that’s where the Cottagers remained until the final whistle of the season. It’s obviously not going to be as straightforward in the Premier League.

Aleksandar Mitrovic was huge for them last season in front of goal. The striker set a new Championship record of 43 league goals during the season.

Can the Serbian take that forward to the top flight? It didn’t work out so well for him in Fulham’s doomed 2020/21 top flight campaign.

Marco Silva did a fantastic job of getting Fulham back up to the top flight after replacing Scott Parker. Silva has some experience in the top flight, but not in a position like this.

Not trying to guide a promoted side through the rigours of a season.

Fulham are 5/4 in Premier League relegation odds* (odds recorded at 21:38 GMT on August 4th, 2022 at Bet365). Silva has used his influence to bring in some big signings for the club, notably Joao Paulinho, Bernd Leno and Andreas Pereira.

The loss of young attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho to Liverpool is huge for them, however.

Can Leeds handle the losses?

Leeds weren’t without their problems last season. Because of their struggles, they ditched much-loved boss Marcelo Bielsa. In came Jesse Marsch who did the job of getting them safe for another season.

The Whites have lost their big two players from last season. Kalvin Philips has gone to champions Manchester City, while Raphinha has gone to Barcelona.

That’s huge losses for them and Leeds are 9/4 in Premier League relegation betting odds* (odds recorded at 21:38 GMT on August 4th, 2022 at Bet365).

Marsch has been tapping up former clubs RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig for new players Brenden Aaronson, Tyler Adams and Rasmus Kristensen.

Leeds have also backed Marsch further in the transfer market with a big £21m deal for Colombian Luis Sinisterra.

They do have quality pieces already like Patrick Bamford and Jack Harrison. Can they add new signings to it and at least get Leeds off to a strong start?

Others potentially in the Premier League relegation mix

Everton had some huge struggles last season. The experiment with Rafa Benitez did not work out at the start of the season. Frank Lampard’s appointment didn’t turn things around, and they only got themselves safe from relegation in their penultimate game of the season.

Now having lost their most influential player in Richarlison, who has gone to Tottenham, are Everton set for more struggles?

There’s a quote of 10/3 on the Toffees going down this season* (odds recorded at 21:38 GMT on August 4th, 2022 at Bet365).

Southampton had a horrible time at the end of last season, losing nine of their final twelve games of the campaign. Their defence was just a shambles in that period.

The Saints were safe in the end, but fans were calling for the dismissal of Ralph Hassenhuttl, who had a stack of pressure on him to get a positive start.

Brentford finished last season in excellent form, winning seven of their final eleven fixtures to give them a 12th-place finish.

It was a superb effort by the Bees, managed by Thomas Frank. They will have to fill the hole that Christian Eriksen leaves behind as he heads to Old Trafford.

The Bees have added some decent pieces to their squad and will look to hang around for at least another season in the top flight.
