The big shift in the US Presidential Election 2020 winner market has happened. Democratic candidate Joe Biden is now the odds-on favourite with the majority of bookmakers.

The Donald on the drift

Civil unrest in the US has shifted the betting markets even further as Donald Trump drifts in the market to win the next election.

Following the death of George Floyd, protests and riots have swept the US. The President’s handling of the Black Lives Matter protests across the country is weighing heavily on him as well.

For the first time since the markets for the US Presidential Election 2020 opened, Donald Trump is no longer the favourite.

Most bookmakers including Bet365 had Biden at 10/11 on Wednesday evening, with Trump at 21/20* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 00:16 GMT on Thursday, June 4th 2020).

The big shift for Biden

Just in the last week it has been reported that over 70% of bets on the market have gone towards a win for Biden later in the year. Remarkably just back in January, Biden was at times, not even with a 10% implied odds percentage to win the election.

So that is a massive margin that Biden has now turned around.

Is it indicative of the way that the country is feeling, and how they will vote come the November elections?

Trump criticism fuels Democratic support

Because of all the pressure that has been mounting on Trump and now the country-wide protests, he appears to be falling out of favour at least with bettors.

Trump is now only at 7/2 with Unibet to win the Popular Vote, with the Demotic Candidate (as Biden isn’t officially confirmed yet) at 1/5* (betting odds taken from Unibet at 00:23 GMT on Thursday, 4th June 2020).

The incumbent President is 3/1 to get between 201-250 Electoral College Votes (which decide the election)where a margin of 270 is needed for success* (betting odds taken from Unibet at 00:23 GMT on Thursday, 4th June 2020).
