Is Kamala being ear-marked to challenge Trump in 2020

Novelty Betting & Other Events Betting

While Donald Trump was claiming victory in last week’s mid-term US elections, his Republican party strengthening their hold on the Senate. However, the President’s grasp of reality appears more suspect than ever before. He was hit hard in the House Of Representatives with the Democrats now holding a considerable majority, enough to probably pass articles of impeachment on the President if they so wished.

No President has been impeached since Bill Clinton in 1998 and he was acquitted. It’s a massive legal and political process to initiate but Trump is such a hated figure on Capitol Hill that the Democrats may think it’s a move worth making. The White House’s main resident is so embroiled in scandal and controversy that an unfavourable report from the FBI’s chief prosecutor Robert Mueller could well tip the balance. The Democrats can now demand to see Trump’s tax returns, which will probably add further fuel to their fire, but the USA’s most controversial Commander-in-Chief seems oblivious to criticism or even the threat of impeachment and won’t leave the top job without a fight.

Trump is still, in fact, favourite to earn a second term in the White House in 2020 (a best 7/4) but there is a growing clamour among the Democrats for Kamala Harris to stand against Trump in two year’s time.

Harris is the exact opposite of Trump. She stands for anti-corruption, women’s rights and the rights of America’s black community. Much younger, she was only the second African-American woman elected to the US Senate. A former prosecutor and California attorney general, she’s played a starring role in Senate Intelligence Committee investigating the Trump administration’s links to Russia so will have plenty of ammunition with which to go to war against Trump in any head-to-heads. What is more, she is an eloquent speaker, not exactly Trump’s forte.

Of course, she may not seek or get the Democratic nomination but is a best 11/2 to do so and 8/1 with sportingbet to be sworn in as President in 2021 and that must be worth a small interest. Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama and the failed candidate in 2016 – Hilary Clinton – are other strong women being talked of as Democratic Presidential nominees and are available at around the 33/1 mark for the nomination. Beto O’Rourke, who narrowly failed to take the Texas Senate seat from Ted Cruz, is 6/1 with Coral in the same market.
