The Champions League action continues on Wednesday night with the opening matches of Groups E through to H, and my next pick features Dutch club, Ajax, taking on Greek side, AEK Athens in Group E with further betting tips for our readers…
Ajax have made a good start to the new Dutch Eredivisie season as they sit in second place in the domestic top flight just two points behind early league leaders, PSV. Four wins from their first five matches of the season has seen Ajax victorious against VV Venlo, Emmen, Vitesse and Groningen, while scoring a total of 14 goals during this opening five-match sequence.
At their Johan Cruijff Arena, Ajax have won their last four on the trot with wins over Standard Liege and Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League as well as league wins over Emmen and Groningen.
These last four matches have all resulted in over 2.5 goals as well, and having reached the group stages of this season’s Champions League with wins over Sturm Graz 5-1 on aggregate, 5-2 against Standard Liege and a 3-1 aggregate win over Dynamo Kiev, Ajax will be confident they can get off to a good start on home turf on Wednesday night.
Onto AEK Athens, and they also had to play a couple of qualifying rounds to reach the group stages of this competition which saw the Greek outfit record wins over Celtic in a nail-biting 3-2 aggregate win as well as a 3-2 aggregate win against Hungarian side, Videoton.
However, AEK’s away form in the Champions League does look a little below-par as they’ve managed to register just one away win from their last seven matches on the road. Four of these last seven away ties saw an over 2.5 goals result, while AEK’s early league form should give them plenty of encouragement.
The visitors have won their first three Super League matches on the trot with wins over PAS Giannina Asteras Tripolis and a resounding 4-0 win over Panionios.
To sum up, my betting tips feel there’s a good chance of more goals in this clash with both teams feeling they can get an early three points here.
