Borussia Dortmund Preview – Can Dortmund bounce back at home?
Borussia Dortmund find themselves having to play catch-up to the early leaders in Group F, Lazio and Club Brugge, prior to their upcoming clash against Zenit, having suffered a heavy and disappointing 3-1 loss away at Lazio on Matchday 1 last week.
However, Dortmund pulled themselves together on the weekend as they recorded a 3-0 home win over Schalke in the German Bundesliga which handed the hosts a third win in four matches overall which also included earlier wins over Freiburg and Hoffenheim, and they’ll be keen to set the record straight in the Champions League tie at home on Wednesday night.
Wednesday’s hosts have also produced some solid results of late at their Signal-Iduna-Park in the Champions League as they’ve suffered just one defeat out of their last eight ties at home and includes impressive wins against Monaco, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, Slavia Prague and PSG, so they’ll be confident that they can bounce back with a win here.
Zenit Preview – Can Zenit keep up?
Wednesday night’s visitors, Zenit, also suffered defeat in their opening match in Group F following last week’s Matchday 1 loss at home to Belgian side, Club Brugge, 2-1 at their Saint-Petersburg Stadium and the Russian side are now in danger of falling even further behind as they face a tough assignment at Dortmund on Matchday 2.
The visitors will also be keen to prevent losing a third match on the trot as they also suffered defeat in their domestic Premier League on the weekend with a 2-1 loss at home to Rubin Kazan, while recent results at Champions League level have left a lot to be desired.
Zenit have managed to win just two out of their last 10 ties overall in this competition, both of which were achieved on home turf at their Saint-Petersburg Stadium with victories over Benfica and Lyon but they’ve lost four of their last five away ties and look to have their work cut out to get a result in Germany on Wednesday night.
