Preview: A 3-0 win in Norway has Bodo/Glimt in a commanding position heading to Faroe Islands, where Klaksvik require a herculean effort to overturn a sizeable deficit against opponent who would reach as far as the last-eight in last season’s Europa League.

Klaksvik – Positive performance required at home?

Faroe Islands’ domestic champions probably didn’t deserve to be beaten by such a wide margin in Norway. MikkJal Thomassen had clearly instructed his team to stay in their shape and restrict the flow and rhythm of their hosts. To some extent it worked, unfortunate to concede from three of Bodo/Glimt’s eight efforts on their goal. The visitors were certainly worth of their to nil loss though.

Klaksvik will have to show more courage in this home leg after not mustering any shots on target away to the Norwegian Eliteserien holders. They only managed three efforts on the Bodo/Glimt goal all game. Now, that is concerning ahead of this return game, because in this season’s Faroe Islands Premier League – which is still ongoing – Klaksvik would average more goals on the road (2.88) than at home (2.57).

Key Stat: Klaksvik hold a 100% win ratio in domestic home league games in 2022, scoring 18 and conceding just three across seven said matches.

Bodo/Glimt – Norwegians firmly in driving seat?

It was all too comfortable first time round, Bodo/Glimt rather going through the motions in a 3-0 victory which came about through some very clinical finishing. That it was followed by an even bigger win three days later – thrashing Sarpsborg 08 4-1 at the same venue – to move third in the Norwegian Eliteserien signalled a team in fine form. That a sixth win in seven competitive games for Kjetil Knutsen’s men.

This team’s only blemish since the beginning of June was a 3-2 away loss to Odd BK, losing a dramatic encounter by shipping a 99th minute goal – barely a minute after levelling proceedings at 2-2. Prior to that, Bodo/Glimt had recorded three away wins to nil on the spin. But they did little of this during last season’s Europa League Quarter-Final run, conceding in eight of ten away European games in 2021-22.

Key Stat: In Europe last season, Bodo/Glimt would win only two of eight away matches (W2 D5 L3), and only one of four during the qualifying rounds.

Klaksvik Vs Bodo/Glimt Betting Advice

I was made to look rather foolish last week after putting up Both Teams to Score when these sides clashed in Norway. Bodo/Glimt duly obliged, as expected, by scoring three. However, Klaksvik didn’t lay a glove on their hosts and must now find three goals to have any chance of turning this tie around. They won’t, turn this tie around, but grabbing a consolation goal may not be completely beyond their capabilities.

Klaksvik vs Bodo/Glimt – Key Facts:

  • The first leg, in Norway, was one-way traffic. Bodo/Glimt easing to a 3-0 victory without so much as conceding a shot on target.
  • This second leg, in the Faroe Islands, could turn out to be a more competitive affair though. Klaksvik would win all seven home league games this season whereas Bodo/Glimt remain inconsistent (W3 L3) on the road in Norway’s Eliteserien in 2022.
  • Bodo/Glimt conceded at least once in eight of ten European away games last season, which included three of their four qualifiers in the Champions League/Europa League.

At 3-0 to the good, there is a chance complacency creeps into Bodo/Glimt’s play. After all, their away record in this season’s Norwegian Eliteserien is mixed to say the least: W3 D0 L3, GF11 GA10. They conceded 80% of the time away from home in Europe last term (eight of ten games) which included qualifiers in Poland, Kosovo and Lithuania. It is 7/10 both teams score in the Faroes, and 9/4 Bodo/Glimt concede but still win.
