Lazio Preview – Can Lazio stage a recovery in Europe?
Although Lazio made the perfect start to their new Serie A campaign in the Italian top flight with an opening day 2-0 win away from home at Cagliari, the Tuesday night’s hosts have since slumped to three matches without a win on the domestic scene which doesn’t bode well for this upcoming clash with solid German outfit, Borussia Dortmund.
Defeats at home to Atalanta 4-1 and a 3-0 thumping on the road at the hands of Sampdoria suggests this clash against Dortmund could be a tough one for the hosts despite holding home advantage, although they did pick up a point in a 1-1 draw at home with Inter Milan in between the losses.
On the European front, Lazio have struggled to achieve consistent results overall as the hosts have managed to collect just three wins from their previous 15 matches and their last appearance in the Champions League ended in a heavy 3-0 defeat against another German side, Bayer Leverkusen, back in 2015.
Borussia Dortmund Preview – Can Dortmund win three on trot?
German visitors, Borussia Dortmund, will head over to Lazio for this opening group match on Tuesday night brimming with confidence after recently registering back-to-back wins in the Bundesliga against Freiburg and Hoffenheim.
Overall, Dortmund have won four of their first six matches in all competitions with one of these losses being a 3-2 loss in the Super Cup against the reigning German and Champions League champions, Bayern Munich, while also winning four of their last seven matches overall in the Champions League.
Dortmund have lost their last three away ties on the trot at this level but they were at Inter Milan, Barcelona and PSG, but they should get something out of this clash at Lazio on Thursday night.
