Manchester City and Celtic were both on the end of heavy domestic defeats in their respective Premier League’s on the weekend, so I feel something has to give at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night when the two teams clash once again in the Champions League…
Looking at Manchester city to begin with, and The Citizens were handed a rude awakening on home turf by visitors Chelsea in a 3-1 defeat which resulted in City dropping down to fourth place in the league table following a run of six matches without defeat in all competitions.
City manager Pep Guardiola will therefore be demanding a reaction on Tuesday night with Celtic set to be the fall-guys in what could be a severe back-lash in the favour of the home side, and a win this evening will guarantee their passage into the next phase of the competition.
Visitors Celtic sit bottom of Group C with only Scottish pride left to play for as they’ve gained just two points from their Champions League campaign after holding Manchester City to a 3-3 draw in the ‘home’ fixture between the two sides along with a point away at German club Borussia Moenchengladbach in a 1-1 draw.
Celtic have very little to lose therefore as they’ve already been eliminated from this competition, and together with an inferior goal difference to Moenchengladbach, they also look very likely to miss out on qualifying for the Europa League too.
The Scottish champions will leave nothing in the dressing room as they look to bow out with dignity, but Manchester City have a point to prove and I fancy the home side to romp home here.
