Match day two of the Champions League continues on Wednesday night when Napoli take on Liverpool at the Stadio San Paolo with further betting tips available for our readers.
Napoli earned a solid enough point away at Red Star Belgrade in the opening match of Group C but although they hold home advantage for match day two, nothing appears to be guaranteed for the hosts as they come into this clash having suffered a heavy 3-1 defeat at Serie A title holders, Juventus on the weekend.
Napoli are the closest rivals for Juventus for this season’s title but were simply blown away by Ronaldo and Co, so they’ll be keen to produce a better showing against Liverpool on Wednesday night.
A return to home turf will be welcome for Napoli who have won their last seven matches on the trot in all competitions, as well as being unbeaten in their last 11 overall at their Stadio San Paolo. Recent form at home in the Champions League though has been patchy as they’ve produced wins against Nice, Feyenoord and Shakhtar Donetsk but have also fallen to defeats to Besiktas, Real Madrid and Manchester City.
Liverpool head over to Italy for Wednesday night’s vital Group C match having failed to beat Chelsea in a recent double-header which ended with The Reds losing 2-1 at home in the League Cup but then earning a point in a 1-1 draw in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge, which was a solid result.
Liverpool opened their account on match day one in Group C with a 3-2 home win over PSG but they’ll be keen to keep this momentum going at Napoli tonight where even a point wouldn’t be the worst result for the visitors.
However, following a run of seven matches without defeat at this level, Liverpool have lost their last two Champions League matches on the trot with losses to Roma and Real Madrid – the latter being last season’s final in this competition.
My betting tips will therefore err on the side of caution and back Liverpool with the draw no bet option in this one.
