Olympiakos Prediction – Can Olympiakos continue winning streak?

An excellent start to their new Greek Super League season has resulted in Olympiakos winning their first 3 league matches on the trot, handing Wednesday night’s hosts a 100% winning record, scoring 7 goals and keeping 3 clean sheets in the process.

The hosts will now prepare for the visit of Tottenham in this opening match of Group B having had to progress through the qualifying rounds to reach the group stages of the Champions League, but Olympiakos have also built up momentum moving through these early rounds too.

A 2nd qualifying round 4-0 win on aggregate against Czech Republic side, Viktoria Plzen, was followed up with a 3-0 aggregate win over Turkish outfit, Istanbul Basaksehir, and then finally, a play-off crushing 6-1 win over two legs against Russian Premier League leaders, Krasnodar, sealed Olympiakos’s place in these group stages.

It’s worth pointing out at this stage that Olympiakos have won 5 of their 6 Champions League ties so far this season and have kept 5 clean sheets within this sequence too, so the market appears to have undervalued their strength here I fancy.

Tottenham Prediction – Can Tottenham go one step better this year?

Last season’s losing finalists in the Champions League will no doubt be looking to go one step better this season after losing in the final to compatriots, Liverpool, but they face a tough road ahead if they’re to do so.

Tottenham have been far from convincing so far this season in the Premier League despite losing just 1 of their opening 5 matches of the new campaign, which was a surprise 1-0 loss to Newcastle United at home a couple of weeks ago.

Their 2 wins in the top flight both came at home where they beat newly promoted Aston Villa 3-1 with Villa gifting the hosts through defensive errors and Saturday’s 4-0 romp over a lacklustre Crystal Palace, which showed glimpses of Tottenham returning to their best.

Results away from home though since the turn of the year have been decidedly below-par as Tottenham have lost 9 of their last 14 matches away from home in all competitions, while in the Champions League, Spurs have won just 2 out of their last 7 away ties which were wins at Borussia Dortmund and Ajax.

Key-Facts – Olympiakos v Tottenham

  • Olympiakos have won 5 of their 6 Champions League ties this season to date
  • Olympiakos have kept 5 clean sheets in these 6 Champions League ties too
  • Tottenham have won just 2 out of their last 7 away ties in the Champions League

Betting Tips Verdict

Olympiakos look undervalued while Tottenham appear to be overvalued in this clash, so I’ll back the hosts with the handicap here.
