Onto Group G, and things are very tight for second spot with just one point separating the hosts, Porto, from the visitors RB Leipzig on match day four when the two teams meet at the Estádio Do Dragão with a valuable three points at stake.
The home side didn’t get off to a good start though in Group G when they lost 3-1 at home to Besiktas, but they managed to bounce back with a resounding 3-0 win away at French champions, Monaco on match day two. Defeat away from home to tonight’s opponents, Leipzig, means that Porto cannot afford to slip up again to the German outfit here this evening if they’re to remain in the hunt for a top two finish in the group.
On a positive note, Porto have lost just once at home in their last 13 matches in all competitions, so they’ll fancy their chances of taking something from this clash I daresay. Striker Aboubakar is expected to lead the line with fellow forwards, Brahimi and Marega flanking him.
Visitors RB Leipzig hold a one point advantage over Porto ahead of match day four following a win, draw and defeat so far in Group G, giving them a total of four points to date. Leipzig drew 1-1 away at Monaco in their group opener, but fell to a 2-0 defeat away to Turkish side, Besiktas, who currently lead the group and are now favourites to progress to the next stage.
On match day three, RB Leipzig recorded what could be a valuable 3-2 win at home over Porto, and they’ll be looking to at least avoid defeat in Portugal here this evening to strengthen their hold on second place in the group, with Monaco having to travel to Besiktas tonight.
This is RB Leipzig’s first ever foray into the Champions League, so with very little history to go by, I’ll back Porto with the round ball here as they look to avenge their defeat in Germany.
