PSG Preview – Can PSG maintain winning run?
After a shaky and disappointing start to their new campaign which resulted in early back-to-back defeats for Tuesday night’s hosts, PSG, they’ve since staged a recovery and bring an impressive five-match winning streak into this upcoming Champions League tie against Manchester United.
Losses to Lens and Marseille in Ligue 1 were certainly a shock to the system but Thomas Tuchel’s side have registered wins against Metz, Nice, Reims, Angers and Nimes respectively, and have scored 10 goals from their latter two victories too.
In addition, PSG have kept four clean sheets from their last five matches while on the Champions League front, PSG have lost just two of their last 11 ties overall and have won their last four home ties on the trot with victories over Real Madrid, Club Brugge, Galatasaray and Borussia Dortmund respectively.
Manchester United Preview – Can United fight on European front?
Manchester United made it four wins out of their last five matches in all competitions on the weekend when they registered a 4-1 win away from home at Newcastle United which saw the Red Devils produce a positive response following their 6-1 mauling at the hands of Tottenham at Old Trafford just before the international break.
It should be noted however that three of these four wins were against inferior opposition as they beat Championship outfit, Luton Town, in the League up and registered wins against Brighton in both the Premier League and the League Cup, but they’ve lost four of their last six matches overall in the Champions League.
Results away from home have also been mixed as United have won just three of their last seven matches on their travels with victories at Young Boys, Juventus and ironically at PSG as well, but the dysfunctional nature of the visitors always seems to be bubbling away under the surface and they simply cannot be trusted to get a result here.
