It’s advantage Real Madrid as we head into the second legs of the semi-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday night as the Spanish giants secured what could be a very valuable 2-1 lead in last week’s first leg in Munich.
Goals from Marcelo and Asensio helped give Real Madrid a vital lead and they now hold home advantage at the Bernabeu when they take on the German champions, Bayern Munich, as the hosts look to achieve a third Champions League final appearance on the trot.
Real Madrid have actually won the last two finals in this prestigious competition, and they’re now seemingly on their way to claim another title. The home side have lost just once in their last 20 on home turf, which was a 3-1 loss to Juventus in the previous round, so they’ll be mindful to avoid another similar defeat tonight. However, Real Madrid have won 6 of the last 7 meetings with Bayern Munich…
Onto the German club, and it would have been a bitter disappointment to lose 2-1 in the first leg in Munich as they’d have been banking on at least heading into this second leg on level terms, so they’ll now be hoping they can spring the same surprise as Juventus did in the previous round when they registered a shock 3-1 win.
However, despite winning their last four away matches in the Champions League with wins at Celtic, Anderlecht, Besiktas and Sevilla, they’re hardly of the same pedigree as Real Madrid and Bayern have had numerous problems with tonight’s hosts in previous meetings.
Bayern Munich will come out swinging, but I believe Real Madrid can at least avoid another defeat on home turf here so I recommend using the round ball handicap in this one.
