Andy Murray climbed to the top of the ATP World Rankings for the first time ever in his career and it pretty much just caps off what has been a brilliant season for him. The new number one is trading at a price of 6/4 with online betting site Ladbrokes to still be the World Number One this time next year. After finally chasing down Novak Djokovic’s points tally at the top of the world rankings, the Scot is on top of the world.

Murray has collected the Wimbledon title, the Olympic Gold and a season-best eight ATP Tour titles this year and is this just the tip of the iceberg for him. Is this his time to shine, to really come out of the shadows of the fading Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and perhaps even Novak Djokovic? Is Murray set for dominance in 2017?

You can take a price of him remaining at the head of the rankings throughout the entire 2017 ATP season and if you are feeling particularly optimistic about his status, he is 300/1 to break Roger Federer’s record of 302 weeks at the top of the charts. There is a small chunk of 50/1 on Murray winning all four Slams net season as well. So with the World Tour Championships the only thing left for Murray to shoot for this year, there is another title he will bank most likely.

Murray is now 1/2 at Ladbrokes to claim the BBC Sports Personality of the Year. He was back out at 12/1 earlier in the year, but has come on so strong side the summer that he is odds on favourite ahead of Alistair Brownlee 4/1, Mo Farah 8/1 and Laura Trott 10/1. He would become the first ever sports person to win the award in back to back years. Murray won the title in 2013 and in 2015.
