Arsenal News and Form – Will the Gunners takedown Aston Villa?

It has been back to back 2-2 draws for Arsenal in the Premier League. In the first of those against Tottenham, Arsenal had to claw their way back from 2-0 to get the point. Last weekend they were at Watford and had a good early 2-0 lead but threw away the position. So the Gunners are now W2 D2 L1 this season in the top flight.

Is it a major surprise that they are still struggling at the back after failing to strengthen there in the summer? Arsenal now are without a clean sheet in four league games, conceding at least two in each of their last three league fixtures. Each of their last four Premier League games have gone over 2.5 goals. They are W1 D1 at home this season but haven’t been ahead at the break in either of those.

The goals have been flowing from the prolific Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. He’s up to five. Only two other players have scored in the league for Arsenal this season, Alexandre Lacazette (2) and Lucas Torrerira (L1). It was a point for Aston Villa last weekend as they collected a draw against West Ham. That was a home fixture for the Villains. It has been two defeats from two road games this season, the losses happening at Spurs and Crystal Palace. They have failed to score in their last two games played as well. A lack of attacking threat looks as if it was starting to become a problem.

They haven’t really looked like scoring in their last two games. Where are the goals going to come from? That’s a big question about Villa. Each of Aston Villa’s last three league games have gone under 2.5 goals. All of the goals that they have conceded away from Villa Park (4) have been scored against them in the second half of fixtures.

It is their defence which is going to get them anything out of this game. There’s no way that they are going to be able to outscore Arsenal in a wide-open attacking game.
