Can Williams win 7th US Open title?

Serena Williams came into the tournament as 8th seed and has just blown everyone away. She went up against Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina in the semi finals, a player who looked as if she had the defensive game to trouble Williams. It didn’t happen, Williams stormed to a 6-3 6-1 win. It was a total of 33 winners that the American hit.

Williams has dropped just one set in this season’s campaign and is the red hot favourite for Saturday night’s showdown with Andreescu. WIlliams has lost her last three Grand Slam Finals, including last season’s US Open showcase match against Naomi Osaka. Her last title at Flushing Meadows happen in 2014. Her last Grand Slam title came at the 2017 Australian Open.

Head to head

Williams and Andreescu were just recently paired up in the final of the Rogers Cup. However, a back problem forced Williams to retire early in the first set. That was their first meeting.

Can Andreescu land first Grand Slam title

The 19 year old Canadian has been on some rise this season. Andreescu has reached the Final of the US Open on what is her first ever showing in the main draw. Overall this is just the fourth time that she has been in the main draw of a Grand Slam. That’s how remkerable of a run this has been from the Canadian. But Andreescu doesn’t look out of place. She looks genuinely as if she belongs at the very top of the game. Can she take her big moment?.

Andreescu is gritty. She is tough. After winning the first set of her semi final against Belinda Bencic, she was in trouble in the second set at 4-2 down. But she dug deep with some remarkable defensive scrambling to take the second set 7-5. It was some fight from her. She also had to fight back in her quarterfinal having been blown away in the opening set against Elise Mertens. What an occasion this is going to be for her.

Predictions

Williams was just so good in her semi final match against a difficult opponent who was right on top of her game. Williams though got it all tactically right on the day and was in stunning form. Andreescu is a real fighter and surely is a future champion. Her time will come but it is a Serena Williams 2-0 set betting option at 5/6 odds* (betting odds taken from bet365 on September 6th, 2019 at 8:20 am) that we have to support.
