Rams to prevail at Griffin Park

Championship Betting

Brentford v Derby County Betting Tips – EFL Championship, 31st August 19.45pm

Neither Brentford nor Derby County have started the EFL Championship season well. This Saturday, the two out-of-form sides square off at Griffin Park in league action. Both teams have been tipped to have successful seasons, but the Bees find themselves down in 19th place at the moment, while the Rams are just above in 16th. Thomas Frank’s men are the 19/20 favourites, but Derby will be looking to hit back after Tuesday’s shocking EFL Cup loss to rivals Nottingham Forest. Which way will this one go in west London?

Brentford News and Form – Can the Bees bounce back after back-to-back defeats?

Before the season got underway a month back, Brentford were available at just 14/1 to win the title. Fast forward four weeks, the Bees are now being priced at 40/1 to finish top and 7/1 for promotion.

Thomas Frank’s Brentford have had a difficult start, losing three of their opening five matches. The Londoners have yet to recover from their shock opening weekend loss to Birmingham City, going on to lose to Leeds United and Charlton Athletic, as well. However, they did manage to beat Middlesbrough 1-0 at the Riverside Stadium on matchday two.

Overall, Brentford have won one, drawn one and lost three to take just four points from a possible 15. They were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the first hurdle, losing on penalties at home to EFL League Two outfit Cambridge United.

Having gone four league and cup games without a win, losing three of those along the way, Brentford will be desperate to hit back with a home league victory this weekend.

Derby County News and Form – Can Cocu’s Rams seal their first league win since the opening weekend?

Taking over from the popular Frank Lampard, who left for Chelsea in the summer, was always going to be a tough task for Phillip Cocu. Derby County had a very successful season in the Championship last term, just missing out on promotion to the Premier League by losing in the play-off final at Wembley Stadium back in May.

Things got off to the perfect start for Cocu, as Derby picked up a 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium on the opening weekend of the season. Since then, though, County have struggled for wins, drawing three and losing one of their last four in the Championship.

After losing at home to Bristol City, Derby responded well with a 1-1 draw with Slaven Bilic’s West Bromwich Albion at Pride Park last weekend. However, they were embarrassed in the EFL Cup by rivals Nottingham Forest in midweek, crashing to a heavy 3-0 defeat at the City Ground.

Like Brentford, Derby have also had an indifferent start to their season. Still, can Cocu’s side pick up a positive result in the English capital at the weekend?

Brentford v Derby County Predictions

Derby County win: Both Brentford and Derby will be hoping to be there or thereabouts in the race for promotion this term. One of these could kick start their season with a win this weekend. Being the home team, the Bees are the 19/20 favourites, while the Rams are available at the generous price of 3/1. With neither club in good form, this is a tough matchup to call. However, I can see County sneaking a win at Griffin Park.

Before losing to Nottingham Forest in the cup in midweek, Derby had scored in each of their first three league and cup away matches this term. Brentford, meanwhile, have failed to net in three of their five Championship encounters so far. Because of that, I think there’s excellent value in bet365’s 6/1 for the away team to win to nil at the weekend.
