Brighton & Hove Albion News and Form – Winless run to continue for the Seagulls?

Life at the Amex Stadium could not have gotten off to a better start for Graham Potter, as Brighton & Hove Albion thumped Watford at Vicarage Road on the opening weekend of the Premier League season. The Seagulls ran riot in Hertfordshire, with an own goal and strikes from Florian Andone and Neal Maupay giving them a deserved 3-0 win.

However, since then, Brighton have failed to win any of their following six in the Premier League. In fact, Potter’s men have struggled, taking just three points from the last 18 on offer. Brighton have drawn with West Ham United, Burnley and Newcastle United, and lost to Southampton, Manchester City and Chelsea. Meanwhile, they beat Bristol Rovers in the League Cup before losing at home to Aston Villa.

 

 

Last weekend, Albion lost 2-0 to Frank Lampard’s Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Brighton held out for 50 minutes, but Jorginho’s penalty opened the scoring. With time running out, Willian’s deflected shot sealed the points for the Blues.

The Seagulls survived by the skin of their teeth under Chris Hughton last season, and they could be involved in another relegation scrap this time around.

Tottenham Hotspur will still be licking their wounds after suffering a humiliating loss to German champions Bayern in the Champions League on Tuesday. Former Arsenal man Serge Gnabry was a thorn in Spurs’ side, netting four times in the 7-2 mauling at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Things have not been too great for Tottenham domestically, either. After seven Premier League fixtures, the Lilywhites occupy sixth place on 11 points. Mauricio Pochettino’s men have won three, drawn two and lost two so far.

Spurs picked up just two points from a possible nine before securing a much-needed 2-1 home win over Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Southampton last weekend. Tottenham made life difficult for themselves against the Saints, with Hugo Lloris at fault for Southampton’s goal and Serge Aurier being sent off in the first half. However, goals from Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Kane did the business for the Londoners.

For a top four side, Tottenham’s form away from home this year has been abysmal to say the very least. Spurs have failed to win on the road in the Premier League since winning 2-1 against Fulham at Craven Cottage way back in January. Can Pochettino’s troops pick up a rare three points on their travels at the weekend?
