Cardiff City vs Barnsley Betting Tips – EFL Championship, 7th December 15.00pm

Neil Harris will be looking to extend his unbeaten run as Cardiff City boss to four games when Barnsley visit South Wales on Saturday. The Bluebirds have one of the best home records in the EFL Championship, winning six of their nine league matches at the Cardiff City Stadium. Barnsley, meanwhile, have yet to win away from home this season. Harris’ Cardiff are the strong favourites in this one.

Cardiff City News and Form – Another home win for the Bluebirds?

Since taking over in the Welsh capital, Neil Harris has guided Cardiff City to two wins and a draw from three games. The Bluebirds picked up their first away victory since winning at Old Trafford in the Premier League in May last weekend, shocking in-form Nottingham Forest with a 1-0 win at the City Ground.

Only Preston North End have picked up more home points than Cardiff in this season’s Championship. City have been very solid at the Cardiff City Stadium, winning six of nine. Only Severnside rivals Bristol City – in what turned out to be Neil Warnock’s last game in charge – have won on their patch this term.

After last weekend’s impressive win at Nottingham Forest, Cardiff will want to build on that by picking up a seventh home league victory of the season at the weekend. The hosts are the odds-on favourites, with bet365 pricing them at 8/11.

Cardiff City vs Barnsley Head to Head

In the 2017-18 Championship campaign, Cardiff did the double over the Tykes. The Bluebirds ended the season with promotion to the Premier League, while Barnsley were relegated to the third tier

Callum Paterson and Marko Grujic were on target in a 2-1 Cardiff win when they last met

Barnsley have won only one of the last ten, with Cardiff winning six of those

The Tykes have won twice at the Cardiff City Stadium, including a 4-3 victory back in December 2016

Key-Facts – Cardiff City vs Barnsley

  • Cardiff have the joint second best home record in the Championship
  • Barnsley have taken just two points from a possible 27 on their travels, which is the fewest in the league
  • The Bluebirds are 16 points above Barnsley in the current standings

Barnsley News and Form – Can the Tykes pick up first away win?

New boss Gerhard Struber guided Barnsley to their first win since the opening weekend of the season last time out. The Tykes picked up their second win of the campaign by beating Hull City 3-1 at Oakwell, with Alex Mowatt, Mike-Steven Bahre and Conor Chaplin getting the goals.

On the whole, though, life back in the Championship has been a struggle for the Yorkshire side so far. Barnsley have the worst away record in England’s second tier, drawing two and losing seven on nine. Since claiming a surprise draw at The Hawthorns, Barnsley have lost three in a row away from home.

Despite winning last weekend, Barnsley remain rock bottom of the Championship table with just 12 points to their name. Still, after picking up his first win last time out, can Austrian Struber inspire the Tykes back-to-back victories?

Cardiff City vs Barnsley Predictions

Cardiff City: Since dropping back into the Championship after a brave but ultimately unsuccessful one-year stay in the Premier League, the Bluebirds have made the Cardiff City Stadium a fortress again. Overall, the Welsh outfit have dropped just seven points on home turf.

This season has been a struggle for Barnsley up until now, and despite claiming a rare win last time out, I can see the Yorkshire team slipping to an eighth away defeat on Saturday. The Bluebirds have kept back-to-back clean sheets, so put some money on Cardiff to win to nil at 9/4.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing has been on fire since Harris arrived, helping himself to two goals in three games. The winger, who scored twice at Old Trafford in May, is priced at 12/5 to net anytime this weekend.
