Championship Tips – 23rd October 2018

It has been a really exciting and competitive start to the season in the Championship up in the scrap for promotion. Middlesbrough took over control at the top of the table over the weekend. There are just the four-point separating the top seven sides at the moment as midweek action returns this week. Here are our top Championship predictions and tips for Tuesday, October 23rd, 2018.

Norwich v Aston Villa

Dean Smith took charge for the first time this season at Villa Park over the weekend and the Villains secured a home win over Swansea. At least that was a much needed three points for the Villains which kept them in mid-table. They start the game four points behind sixth-placed Norwich as they visit Carrow Road on Tuesday. Norwich have won four of their last six games (D1 L1) and took a good way win at Notts Forest on the weekend. They don’t do things by big margins, but they have been winning game recently. Norwich at 7/5 odds-against at home against a Villa side who have won once on their travels is value* (betting odds taken on October 21st, 2018 at 10:38 pm).

Sheffield United v Stoke

The Blades slipped on the weekend as they had a four-match winning streak snapped in a 2-1 away defeat at Derby. They have such strong home form going this season though and are W4 D1 in their last five league outings at Bramall Lane. They have netted at least two goals in three of their four home wins. Stoke are still stuck on the one away win all season (although that happened in their last road game) but the Potters offer little appeal in terms of a win. Stoke have conceded an average of 1.8 goals per away game this season. The Blades can take advantage of that. Home win at 17/20 odds is sound enough for us* (betting odds taken on October 21st, 2018 at 10:38 pm).

Swansea v Blackburn

Swansea don’t exactly look as if they have the form to make a run at getting back up to the Premier League this season. They have just the one win in their last six games and have suffered back to back defeats after losing at Aston Villa on the weekend. Swansea have failed to score in four of their last six games now. Blackburn look a fairly strong outfit this season and won a great duel with Leeds at Ewood Park on Saturday. That was a good performance and result for them and are easily good enough at 8/11 for a double chance* (betting odds taken on October 21st, 2018 at 10:38 pm).

Millwall v Wigan

The Lions have fallen a long way from last season. This is the team who finished eighth in last season’s second term just three points outside of the playoffs. They are now currently on ten points from thirteen games and sat inside the bottom three. How badly they need a lift. The Lions are just W2 D2 L2 at home this season as they welcome Wigan. Surprisingly Millwall have only lost one of their four home games against sides currently in the top four (W1 D2 L1). Wigan are eighth. The Latics are a home team and that is it, with them W1 L5 on their travels. They have already lost heavily at Preston who are level on points with Millwall. We are going with the home win at 6/5 odds against* (betting odds taken on October 21st, 2018 at 10:38 pm).
