Chelsea News and Form – Can Chelsea get the better of Burnley?

On New Years’ Day, Chelsea were denied a win at Brighton, when Alireza Janahnbakhsh scored a stunning overhead equaliser against them, with about five minutes to go at the Amex. Chelsea’s league form has been very patchy with a W3 D1 L5 record in their last nine played. They have lost three of their last four at Stamford Bridge, failing to score in any of those defeats in the sequence against West Ham, Bournemouth or Southampton. A loss here would make it three straight home losses in the EPL. The overall home form of Chelsea this season is W4 D2 L4 which is below expectations.

The Blues have scored only 11 goals in 10 home games and only three fixtures this season at Stamford Bridge have ended over 2.5 goals. They have definitely been producing a lot better away from home recently. As a positive going into this fixture, Chelsea have scored at least 2 goals in each of their last five games against Burnley and have lost only one of their last 12 against them. Burnley News and Form – Can Burnley snap their losing streak?

It is a three-match losing streak that Burnley are on, after losing at home against Aston Villa on New Years’ Day. But their troubles are a lot bigger than that because Sean Dyche’s men have lost six of their last eight top-flight games (W2). Away from home this season Burnley have managed only two road successes (D3 L5) and have produced only one goal in total in their last three away games. They need to come up with a response soon to ease some pressure.

The two wins that the Clarets have taken on their travels were against Bournemouth and Watford, two of the three teams who are starting the weekend in the relegation zone. Burnley have scored at an average of a goal per road game in this campaign, but have conceded to an average of 1.7 per away game. Breaking it down, they have lost four of their last six away from Turf Moor and seven of their eleven league defeats for the season have been by a margin of at least two goals. Burnley, incidentally have not been involved in a league draw in fourteen games now.
