Columbus Crew v LA Galaxy Betting Tips – MLS, 9th May 00.30am

Columbus Crew and LA Galaxy lock horns in MLS at the Mapfre Stadium in Ohio. After five successive defeats, can Caleb Porter’s side get back to winning ways against the Galaxy in this one? Despite their poor form, the Crew are the 19/20 favourites with bet365 to take maximum points. This should be an intriguing MLS fixture.

Columbus Crew News and Form

Columbus Crew have been in woeful form of late, losing each of their last five MLS encounters. Since sealing a 1-0 win over New England Revolution a month ago, things have gone rapidly downhill for the Crew, as they have lost consecutive matches to Montreal Impact, Portland Timbers, DC United (twice) and Houston Dynamo.

Last weekend, Porter’s side crashed to a heavy 3-1 defeat to DC at the Audi Field in Washington, falling three behind before grabbing a late consolation strike. First-half goals from Luciano Acosta and Wayne Rooney put the home team 2-0 up at the break. Paul Arriola added a third on the hour, with DC’s Bill Hamid scoring an own goal to get the Crew on the scoresheet in the capital. It was another extremely poor day at the office for Columbus.

Even though the Crew made a strong start to their campaign, they now find themselves languishing in sixth place in the table on 13 points. So far, the club have won four, drawn one and lost six. However, with only 12 teams in the Eastern Conference, Columbus are just seven points off the top and five points above bottom place.

Columbus have lost their last two at home, so Porter and his team will be keen to make amends in front of their own fans in this one.

  • The Galaxy have won only once away from home so far this term

LA Galaxy News and Form

LA Galaxy have made a solid start to their MLS campaign, winning seven, drawing one and losing two. Only rivals LA FC, who have played a game more, have picked up more points in the Western Conference up until now, as the Galaxy have taken 22 points from a possible 30.

Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s troops have been outstanding on home soil so far, winning all six of their MLS matches at Dignity Health Sports Park, scoring 13 and conceding six in the process. Away from home, however, Schelotto’s side have won just one of four, losing to FC Dallas and New York Red Bulls.

In their last outing, the Galaxy were on the wrong end of a five-goal thriller in the Big Apple. Despite coming from behind to lead 2-1 at half time through goals by Uriel Antuna and the incomparable Zlatan Ibrahimovic, LA left New York with a 3-2 defeat.

Columbus Crew v LA Galaxy Predictions

LA Galaxy win: The Galaxy have certainly had their struggles away from home this season, but Schelotto’s men should take advantage of Columbus’ poor form in Ohio. LA have already won by a one-goal margin on five occasions this term, with four of those ending in 2-1 wins. I fancy LA Galaxy to run out 2-1 winners again.
