Ronaldo transfer unrest at Old Trafford?

There was some interesting movement this week in Cristiano Ronaldo Transfer betting. Chelsea moved in from around 30/1 in the Ronaldo Next Club market to a current quote of 11/4* (betting odds taken at 04:57 GMT on July 5th, 2022 at Bet365).

Is a Ronaldo transfer to Chelsea on the cards? Or is this just rumour-mill fodder?

Cristiano Ronaldo Transfer request to leave Old Trafford

The latest sports news over the weekend broke that Cristiano Ronaldo has asked to leave Manchester United.

Ronaldo still has another year on his contract at Old Trafford after re-signing with them last summer.

But with no Champions League football this season, and the Red Devils looking far from being Premier League title contenders, Ronaldo wants away.

Ten Hag not a fit?

New Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag is bound to bring some big changes to the club this season.

With the announcement from Ronaldo, it may leave Manchester United scrambling.

Ten Hag may have been thinking already about how to work him into plans.

But now he faces the prospect of having a player on the books that doesn’t really want to be there.

Dealing with any summer Ronaldo transfer business is going to be a distracting thing.

But in one way or another, Manchester United are going to be rebuilding under the new boss. It may simply be a plan that Ronaldo wants to buy into.

37-year-old Ronaldo isn’t exactly material for a rebuild project.

Even if Ten Hag wants him, Ronaldo may feel it would be a wasted season helping a team rebuild. The clock isn’t on his side.

Manchester United resistant?

The stance by Manchester United appears to be firm. That Cristiano Ronaldo is not going anywhere, that he is part of the plans.

There are about five weeks until the start of the new season. There’s time to convince the Portugal star to stay.

But the timing is a little strange. Why didn’t he declare intentions to leave earlier in the summer?

Has he been waiting for the right time? Is something brewing?

Ronaldo was the top scorer last season for Manchester United with 24 goals.

Should he push for a move, that doesn’t leave Manchester United a great amount of time to find a replacement that they hadn’t been planning on finding.

Ronaldo is 13/8 to remain at Manchester United for the start of next season* (betting odds taken at 04:57 GMT on July 5th, 2022 at Bet365).

Ronaldo transfer to Chelsea?

The Blues have been trimmed to as short as 11/4 to be Ronaldo’s next club* (betting odds taken at 04:57 GMT on July 5th, 2022 at Bet365).

This is a strange one. The Blues do need to rebuild their front line, after seeing Romelu Lukaku go out on loan to Inter.

They have a Champions League to prepare for next season, but it’s hard to see how a 37-year-old forward fit into Chelsea’s immediate future.

There’s the other side of things. Manchester United probably wouldn’t be happy about letting him go to a team that is more than likely going to be in the mix for a Top 4 Finish next season.

Where else could Ronaldo go?

Given his high wages, there aren’t that many viable destinations for Cristiano Ronaldo really.

Bayern Munich are at 9/4 and they may see him as a stop-gap option* (betting odds taken at 04:57 GMT on July 5th, 2022 at Bet365). The German giants could be losing Robert Lewandowski this summer so would need someone to step in.

A move for Ronaldo to PSG would be interesting, as he’d join Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi, but that is probably unlikely.

Similarly unlikely is that a return to Real Madrid would be on the cards for Ronaldo. A serious contender in the Cristiano Ronaldo transfer betting options would be Any MLS Club at 25/1* (betting odds taken at 04:57 GMT on July 5th, 2022 at Bet365).

Former Real Madrid team-mate Gareth Bale has just signed on board in the US. Ronaldo would likely get the wages he would command there. It would also give him a reasonable shot at extending his career, and finding the goals that keep him in the limelight.
