Gerrard 10/11 favourite to be next Villa boss

Former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard appears to be firmly on the shortlist to take over at Villa Park.

Gerrard is the 10/11 favourite currently in the Next Aston Villa Manager betting market * (odds recorded at 20:12 GMT on November 7th, 2021 at Betfair).

Would they be able to prise him away from Ibrox however, especially during mid-season?

After winning the Scottish league title with Rangers last season, if he was to go to Villa with a degree of success it would probably be seen as a stepping stone to potentially becoming a future Liverpool manager.

Our betting prediction:
Steven Gerrard
10/11

Could Hjulman get the nod?

There is a relationship between Kasper Hjulmand and Villa’s sporting director Johan Lange, so the current Denmark boss has been linked with the vacant Villa job.

Hjulman was at the helm when Denmark made that fantastic run to the Euro 2020 semi-finals where they were beaten by England.

Hjulman is a quote of 11/2 in the Next Villa Manager betting odds * (odds recorded at 20:12 GMT on November 7th, 2021 at Betfair).

Given that Denmark is settled under him and this is an international break, it may be tough to get him to leave that particular post.

Frank Lampard in the picture?

The easier option would be for Villa to turn towards a manager who is not currently employed of course.

One of those is former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard who hasn’t been employed since January when he was given the push by the Blues.

Lampard has been linked with the opening at Norwich which cropped up over the weekend.

His credentials lie in working with younger players and having had that great Championship season with Derby in the 2018/19 season.

Lampard is a longer quote of 12/1 * (odds recorded at 20:12 GMT on November 7th, 2021 at Betfair).

Terry’s lack of experience to hinder chance?

Another former Chelsea man being linked with the job is John Terry who spent some time at Villa as both a player and assistant manager.

So he knows the club and the club knows him. Terry left the club in the summer and is available.

But will Villa prefer to turn to experience?

Despite Terry being at 3/1 in the Next Aston Villa manager betting odds, the lack of managerial experience could work against Terry’s opportunity * (odds recorded at 20:12 GMT on November 7th, 2021 at Betfair).

Terry hasn’t held down a managerial role yet.

Other names in the frame

Southampton’s Ralph Hassenhuttl may be a target for Villa. His Saints side beat Villa on Friday night, prompting the sacking of Smith.

The timing may not be right here however with the Saints coming into good form with a run of W3 D1 in the Premier League before the international break.

Former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca has been linked with a lot of the Premier League jobs that have come up.

His name had already been rumoured for the Villa job before Smith got his marching orders. Fonseca is a free agent currently.

Another of the top managers who are out for work currently is Nuno Espirito Santo who was never really given a chance at Spurs having taken over in the summer.

But will the lack of form shown by Tottenham keep him on the backburner?

Villa look to stop their EPL slide

The international break will give Villa some time to regroup. They have fallen to a five-match losing streak in the Premier League, which obviously isn’t good enough.

They closed out the weekend just two points above the drop zone.

Aston Villa are a current quote of 5/1 in Premier League Relegation odds * (odds recorded at 20:12 GMT on November 7th, 2021 at Betfair).
