Derby County v Bristol City Betting Tips – EFL Championship, 20th August 19.45pm

Derby County and Bristol City meet in the EFL Championship in midweek. Phillip Cocu is still unbeaten as Rams boss, while the Robins picked up their first win of the season last time out. With Tuesday’s clash taking place at Pride Park, the Rams are the favourites. However, Bristol City were excellent on the road under Lee Johnson last season, and they are more than capable of picking up a result in the Midlands in midweek.

Derby County News and Form – Will the Rams extend their unbeaten run?

Derby County have made a solid start to their season, winning two and drawing two of their opening four league and cup games. However, after winning 2-1 at Huddersfield Town on the opening weekend, the Rams have drawn their last two in the Championship.

Derby’s one and only game at Pride Park this season ended in a stalemate against Steve Cooper’s Swansea City. County huffed and puffed but failed to break down a resolute Swans defence in the eventual 0-0 draw. Last season, only Sheffield United and Norwich City accumulated more home points than the Rams.

After that frustrating stalemate with Swansea, Derby were held to a 2-2 draw by Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium last time out. Martyn Waghorn gave the Rams an early lead but goals from Liam Lindsay and Scott Hogan turned the game on its head. Waghorn netted again with 20 minutes to go to earn Derby a deserved point.

Having drawn their last two in the league, Cocu’s Derby will want to return to winning ways in front of their home supporters in midweek. The Rams are the favourites at 23/20.

Bristol City News and Form – Can the Robins make it back-to-back wins?

Bristol City made a very slow start to their season, failing to win any of their opening three in all competitions. The Robins started their campaign with a poor 3-1 home loss to Leeds United, which they followed up with a 1-1 draw at Birmingham City. They were then beaten on penalties by Queens Park Rangers in the EFL Cup.

City got revenge against QPR in the Championship on Saturday, though, sealing a 2-0 win on home turf. Adam Nagy put the Robins in front ten minutes before the break, with Benik Afobe completing the scoring on the hour mark.

Bristol City were one of the best away sides in the Championship last season. In fact, only promoted Norwich (45) and Sheffield United (40) claimed more away points than the Robins’ 38. Along the way, Johnson’s side won 11 of 23 away matches.

City will be buoyed by Saturday’s much-needed win over QPR. The Bristol outfit would love to follow that up with another three points on Tuesday, but that will be a tough task at fortress Pride Park. At the time of writing, the Robins are available at 5/2 to secure all three points in the Midlands.

Derby County v Bristol City Predictions

Draw: This is a very tough one to call. Derby may well be the favourites on their own patch, but Bristol City got their campaign up and running with three points last time out and Johnson’s side will fancy their chances of picking up a positive result from Tuesday’s trip to Pride Park. However, I can see this one ending all square, so have a punt on the draw and both teams to score, which you can get 10/3.

County have scored in three of their four matches in all competitions this season, with Cocu’s men opening the scoring in all of those. The Rams usually draw first blood on home soil, so put some money on Derby to score first in this clash at 8/11.
