Doncaster Rovers v Charlton Athletic Betting Tips – League One Play-offs, 12th May 12.15pm

The second League One play-off semi-final first leg takes place at the Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday afternoon, as Grant McCann’s Doncaster Rovers host Lee Bowyer’s Charlton Athletic. The Addicks finished a whopping 15 points above Rovers in the League One table, but that counts for very little when it comes to the play-offs. Can Donny take a lead to The Valley, or will Charlton claim a positive result in South Yorkshire?

Doncaster Rovers News and Form

After taking just one point from three games, Doncaster Rovers booked their place in the League One play-offs on the final day of the regular season. Goals either side of half time from Kieran Sadlier and Josh Marquis were enough to give McCann’s men a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Coventry City at the Keepmoat last Saturday, pipping Peterborough United to sixth place in the process.

Generally, Doncaster have been in pretty decent shape of late. The Yorkshire club have won five of their last eight, losing just two of those. From late March to the middle of April, Rovers won four in a row, seeing off Bristol Rovers, Walsall, Bradford City and Plymouth Argyle in successive matches.

Doncaster were very strong at home in this season’s League One campaign, winning 13 of their 23 matches. Meanwhile, only Fleetwood Town, Sunderland and Accrington Stanley won at the Keepmoat in the league. Donny have lost just won of their last 15 home league fixtures, winning four of their last five along the way.

Having finished well behind the other three in terms of points, Doncaster are without doubt the underdogs going into the play-offs, with Sportingbet even pricing them at 5/1 to be promoted to the Championship. Nevertheless, that won’t bother McCann and his boys too much.

Charlton Athletic News and Form

Charlton Athletic have had a fine season under Bowyer, picking up an impressive 88 points. Despite missing out on automatic promotion to the Championship by just three points, Charlton will head into the play-offs full of confidence and belief, and the London club are the bookies’ favourites to come out on top.

The Red Robins finished their season off in incredible form, winning a staggering ten of their last 13 regular season matches, losing just one game since early February along the way. Since falling to a 2-1 defeat at Oxford United a few weeks back, Charlton have won three on the bounce, scoring ten and conceding none. In recent weeks, the London outfit have thumped both Scunthorpe United and Rochdale 4-0.

Even though Charlton had a remarkable end to their season to push the likes of Luton Town and Barnsley all the way in the race for the top two, Bowyer’s troops have certainly had their troubles away from home this term, losing eight times on the road in the league. Having said that, only Portsmouth (13), Luton, Barnsley and Peterborough (all 11) picked up more away wins than Charlton (10).

Athletic are the form team in the play-offs, which could give them the edge in this two-legged tie. However, Charlton will be looking for a decent lead to take into the second leg at fortress Valley.

Doncaster Rovers v Charlton Athletic Predictions

Charlton Athletic win: With the Addicks in such fine fettle, Bowyer’s side will take some stopping in this season’s League One play-offs. First and foremost, though, Chariton will want to win at the Keepmoat. Six of Athletic’s last seven victories have come with clean sheets. Because of that, have a punt on the away side to win to nil on Sunday afternoon.
