Everton News and Form – Will Toffees win first home game?

The Toffees never got themselves going in their first game of the season. They made the trip to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace and played out a 0-0 draw. It is likely that they are going to be a little bit sharper this weekend back at Goodison Park. If you look at the positives, they avoided defeat in a tricky opening away game. So, all in all, it wasn’t that bad of a start. Incidentally last season they started with an away draw before the first of their fixtures at Goodison Park. The Toffees went undefeated across their opening four games of the campaign (W1 D3).

Their first home game of last season saw Everton beat Southampton 2-1. The Toffees went on to win five of their six opening home games last season. In total Marco Silva’s men averaged 1.6 goals per home game, and they had some hot form at the back end of last season on Merseyside. Everton won their last four home games, taking a clean sheet in each of them as well. They just didn’t have their output going last weekend, which, after so much summer hype was disappointing from them. Expect more from them.

Watford News and Form – Can the Hornets recover from opening loss?

The Hornets had a season-opener to forget. They crumbled at home to a 3-0 loss against Brighton, a team who had only just managed to survive the drop last season. So much better was expected of Watford in that fixture. So that now raises the pressure on them in what was already looking like a tough away fixture. Do Watford have a response in them, can they show a bit of character up in the northwest to put that opening loss behind them?

Last season away from home in the Premier League Watford posted a W6 D5 L8 record. They did get a win in their opening road fixture, a 3-1 success at Burnley. Watford are already worse off than they were at the start of last season because they won all four of their opening games a year ago. It is notable looking back, that Watford did struggle away from home against the stronger teams. They lost 7 of their away games against teams who finished in the top ten and failed to score in four of those.

Everton v Watford Predictions

Everton to win: it is going to be a big afternoon on Merseyside and Everton look good enough to pick up three points in this one. They should be a bit more of an attacking threat than they were away from home last weekend. Watford have to try and pick up the pieces of that bruising opening weekend defeat. Home win.
