Gareth Bale is now as a short at 4/1 to be a Newcastle player by the end of January 2021* (betting odds taken from Paddy Power at 00:12 GMT on Wednesday, 13th May 2020).

The transfer market betting activity on players potentially heading to Tyneside is active at the moment, because of a proposed takeover at the Premier League club.

None of the rumours have been bigger than bringing Gareth Bale back to the Premier League from Real Madrid.

Will this player sign for Newcastle before 31st January 2021?

Will takeover prompt a spending spree?

Investors from Saudi Arabia (Saudia Arabia Public Investment Fund) are looking to secure the purchase of the club from current owner Mike Ashley. That all still has to be approved and the Premier League is currently looking into the deal.

That’s not going to stop rumours happening. According to Spanish paper Marca, Newcastle could make Bale their priority signing, if the takeover happens. But is that a likely proposition?

Bale earns more than £350,000-a-week with Real Madrid and still has a couple of years on his contract with the Spanish giants.

So it’s not only a lump sum of money that a club like Newcastle would need to get Bale, but it would be a massive wage burden as well. It would be a massive hit to their budget.

Other Big Names heading to Newcastle?

There is, of course, no way to know what approach Necwasetle will take in the transfer market if the injection of funds happens. It will certainly be a big boost for the club, but will they go and splash the cash on big superstar names?

Or will they slowly piece together a talented younger squad? Who will even be in charge of all that? Former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is the current favourite to be the next Newcastle manager.

The incumbent Steve Bruce has been hotly tipped not to be there for the start of next season.

Other big names being linked with a potential move to Newcastle are Philippe Coutinho at 10/1, Arturo Vidal at 5/1 and Edinson Cavani at 6/1* (betting odds taken from Paddy Power at 00:12 GMT on Wednesday, 13th May 2020).

Also currently coming in at single figures is RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner who has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool.

He is 9/1 to go to Newcastle instead* (betting odds taken from Paddy Power at 00:12 GMT on Wednesday, 13th May 2020)
