Hull v Aston Villa Betting Preview Championship – 6th August 7.45pm

Hull will be hoping to land a positive start to the new Championship season to quickly put behind the struggles of last term. But they don’t get an easy game at the KCom in the first Monday night action of the new season. They welcome Aston Villa, last season’s fourth-place finishers and it should be a tight duel between them.

Hull News and Form

Hull didn’t have much of a time of it in last season’s Championship as they could only bank an 18th place finish. They weren’t under a great deal of stress at the end really even though they only managed to win two of their last nine games of the season. They picked up an average W7 D8 L8 home record last season in the second tier and really they haven’t done anything of note in the transfer market to really boost their fortunes. But this is the start of the new season and there will be some energy and enthusiasm in the legs on home soil and under 2.5 goals at 3/4 odds takes our appeal* (Betting Odds were taken from August 1st, 2018 at 8:17 p.m.). There was a bit of trend with that last season as well because 61% of Hull’s home games last season in the division ended under the goal line. The most frequent scoreline at the KCom was a 0-0 draw. The thing about Hull last season though was they that they finished as the highest scoring team in the bottom half of the table, their defence was just an utter disaster though.

Aston Villa News and Form

Aston Villa received a boost over the summer as they took in some new investments to help them out. After missing out on promotion the club were in financial difficulty, but investors have stepped in to give them a huge boost. So things look a little brighter for the Villains going into the new season who are 12/1 odds to win the Championship outright this term* (Betting Odds were taken from August 1st, 2018 at 8:17 p.m.). Steve Bruce is staying on as boss and while they are expecting the impending departure of Jack Grealish, their only piece of transfer activity has been keeper Andre Moreira coming in on a loan deal.

Will the injection of funds help them dip into the market before it closes for the summer? They had one of the strongest squads last season in the second tier, but it is not a particularly youthful once. Villa shaped up well in pre-season winning four of their five games in the month of July. We are going to back both teams not to score at even money odds* (Betting Odds were taken from August 1st, 2018 at 8:17 p.m.) as Villa collected a clean sheet in 43% of their away games last season but weren’t particularly prolific in front of goal.

Hull v Aston Villa Head to Head

The two Championship clashes last season ended in a draw and three of the last six have ended in parity. Hull are unbeaten in their last three home games against the Villains (W1 D2) so they do have that on their side. Both teams have scored in just three of the last thirteen meetings between Villa and Hull across all competitions.

Hull v Aston Villa Betting Odds*

Hull v Aston Villa Predictions

The draw has the most appeal in this Monday night clash in the outright market. On the back of the two drawn meetings, last season and the fact that neither side have done much of anything in the transfer market to change their squads, more of the same could be on the cards. Draw.
