Kane stays favourite in Premier League Top Scorer Betting

Can Salah trump Kane in Golden Boot race?

Premier League Betting

Despite being the current top scorer in the Premier League by two clear goals, Mo Salah isn’t outright favourite to go all the way this term and collect the Golden Boot. The Liverpool hot shot is the 7/2 second favourite in the William Hill Premier League Top goalscorer market behind Tottenham’s Harry Kane. But the Liverpool man is having such a fantastic season, has looked clinical and now the rumours are that Real Madrid have the Egyptian on their radar.

But he is playing second fiddle to Kane in the Golden Boot odds, but that will just make him more appealing to punters. Interestingly, at the time of writing, Mo Salah’s 14 goals have come from sixteen Premier League appearances. Kane has netted his ten goals this season from fifteen Premier League games, but the Spurs man has amassed more minutes on the pitch than Salah has done for Liverpool. Eight of Kane’s league goals this season have been inside the box.

Premier League Top Scorer Odds

Harry Kane 7/4, Mohamed Salah 7/2, Sergio Aguero 9/2, Romelu Lukaku 6/1, Gabriel Jesus 12/1, Alvaro Morata 12/1, Raheem Sterling 16/1, Alexandre Lacazette 25/1, bar 66/1

So it’s all pretty even, but the stand out stats comes from the shooting accuracy. Salah’s accuracy has been a fantastic 64% so far this season because his fourteen league goals have come from just 53 shots on target. In comparison, Kane has fired off 69 shots on target return two goals fewer and that has left Kane with a 54% shot accuracy this season. So despite Kane having won the last two Premier League golden boots, he has a challenge on his hands here.

Mohamed Salah 14
Harry Kane 12
Raheem Sterling 11
Sergio Agüero 10
Romelu Lukaku 10
Álvaro Morata 9
Wayne Rooney 9
Gabriel Jesus 8
Alexandre Lacazette 8
Jamie Vardy 7

Breaking it down, Salah has now managed a goal every 97 minutes of play on average, while Kane is averaging a goal every 124 minutes of action. That’s big difference over the course of the season if that is sustained. Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus all trump the accuracy that Harry Kane has turned out. But not Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku who is now averaging a goal every 162 minutes, that’s despite him having a 60% success rate from shots on target.

So the output of Salah has been staggering and at 7/2 with William Hill he is well worth a flutter with Liverpool always going to be a positive, attacking side, whereas Spurs have already looked at times this season that they are running out of steam a little bit. But you can’t dismiss the scoring threats for the Manchester City players in the Golden Boot race either because of the way that the Citizens are playing and there is every chance that Aguero, who already has three spot kicks converted this season, is going to be in the mix.
