Lincoln City News and Form

Danny Cowley’s Lincoln City have been by far the most consistent team in the fourth tier this season. The Imps have won 23, drawn 16 and lost just six of their 45 games to book their place in next season’s League One. Along the way, Lincoln have scored 73 goals and shipped 33.

Despite recently being crowed League Two champions, Lincoln have taken their foot of the gas of late, failing to win any of their last four. Since their 2-0 victory at MK Dons a month back, City have picked up just two points from the last 12 on offer. Last weekend, Cowley’s side lost 1-0 to Newport County in South Wales, which was their second away reverse on the spin. Nevertheless, the Imps deserve a little hiccup after what has been a sensational campaign.

Strangely, six teams have picked up more home points this season. Lincoln have accumulated 43 points on their own patch, which is still a great return. Away from home is where the Imps have really shone, though, as City have won 12, drawn six and lost five of their 23 away fixtures, picking up 42 points along the way.

After going four games without a win, the newly crowned League Two champions will want to end their season with a home win on Saturday. The hosts are the favourites, with bet365 pricing them nicely at 6/5.

Colchester United News and Form

After a 2-0 home win over MK Dons last weekend, Colchester United have given themselves a slim chance of gate-crashing the top-seven party on the final day. However, four other clubs are also still in the mix. Since falling to back-to-back losses to Oldham Athletic and Bury (both 2-0), The U’s have picked up seven points from their last three fixtures.

Colchester have struggled on the road lately, winning just one of their last five away from the Colchester Community Stadium. In their last away fixture, the Essex club drew 1-1 with Yeovil Town at Huish Park on Easter Monday.

Colchester will be desperate for all three points at Sincil Bank, but even a win will not be enough if results don’t go their way. It could be too little, too late in terms of a play-off spot for McGreal’s side.

Lincoln City v Colchester United Predictions

Draw: Lincoln have without doubt eased up after gaining promotion to the third tier, which could give Colchester half a chance in the East Midlands. However, with the home team drawing each of their last three on their own patch, I can see the Imps ending their season with another stalemate at Sincil Bank. It could be worth backing the draw and both teams to score in this one.
