Manchester City News and Form – Will Citizens recover after defeat at Norwich?

Manchester City suffered a massive setback in their title defence last weekend. They made a trip to Carrow Road to face Norwich and suffered a 3-2 loss there. Something was off about them, they just lacked a bit of commitment and sharpness. That’s not taking anything away from Norwich who figured out perfectly how to play them.

Norwich went straight for the heart of the City defence which is frail. They got their rewards. Nicolas Otamendi is City’s only fit centre half at the moment for City. Fernandinho is going to step into the backline. He did that in midweek as City cruised to an opening Champions League win at Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Citizens have struck at least two goals in all league games this season, and have scored at least 2 in each of their last 11 against Watford too. Despite their defence looking a little rocky and giving up sloppy goals this season, the Citizens have six clean sheets in their last eight league home games.

They have also been winning at HT and FT in all but one of their last seven against Watford. Manchester City are averaging 3.2 goals per league fixture this season. They only dropped two points in their last eleven home games in the top flight. They are W21 D2 L1 in their last 24 league games at the Etihad.

Watford News and Form – Can Watford survive at the Etihad?

It has been a poor season for Watford. That just carried over from the back end of last season. It is a nine-match winless streak of league form from Watford at the moment after a draw against Arsenal last weekend. That is back to back drawn games that the Hornets have taken in the league now.

They would be delighted if they kept that sequence going because it would mean that they have survived a mighty tough trip to the Etihad. Their draw against the Gunners last weekend, was the first game back in charge for Quique Flores who replaced Javi Gracia recently.

The Hornets are D1 L1 away from home this season, the defeat happening at Goodison Park against Everton. Watford have at least scored in each of their last three games, having failed to net in their opening two fixtures.

They are yet to take a clean sheet this season though, which is a worry when you are facing Man City. Watford are currently 10 points worse off than they were after five games of last season’s top-flight campaign. The Hornets have lost five of their last seven league away games (D1 L1).
