Within fifteen minutes of opening a book on Garry Monk becoming the next Birmingham City manager, it was suspended. As St Andrews chewed up and spat out another manager in the form of Steve Cotterill, betting flooded towards who his replacement would be.

Betvictor offered 12/1 opening odds on former Leeds and Swansea boss Monk getting the job and punters were so keen on that action, that within minutes, Monk had become the odds-on favourite in next Birmingham manager betting from such a big starting price.

Other names on the list included Gordon Strachan and Mark Warburton, but it was Monk (who was recently in charge at Middlesbrough) who jumped to the front of the pack. Steve Cotterill was given the push following a 2-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest on the weekend which left the Blues on a five-match losing streak in the league and rooted in the relegation zone.

Monk becomes 5th Blues boss in 15 months

It has been hard for anyone to hold down a job at St Andrews. In the last fifteen months they have gone through four different managers with Gary Rowett’s dismissal still baffling, and then Gianfranco Zola, Harry Redknapp and Steve Cotterill all had turns but were booted to the curb.

Punters were correct in that it was Monk who was named the new Birmingham manager this weekend. It’s pretty much the last throw of the dice for the Blues who are even money at Bet Victor to suffer relegation with only Burton and Sunderland in at shorter prices* (Betting Odds taken at 03:11 a.m. on March 5th, 2018).
