Newcastle v Burnley Betting Tips – Premier League 31st January 7.45pm

Newcastle still have relegation concerns hanging over them and their big worry is their lack of home form in the Premier League. There has not been much to cheer about at St James’ Park for them this season. Burnley though have been having a difficult time of late as well though, putting together a winless streak of form which has seen their season take a turn for the worse after such a positive first half of the term.

Newcastle News and Form

Newcastle are W2 D2 L2 in their last six Premier League games and before suffering a loss to Manchester City last time out were actually unbeaten in three. They crashed out of the FA Cup on the weekend against Chelsea, despite putting in a decent first half, but they ended up losing 3-0 as they just don’t have the quality to go the distance. Their winless streak at home in the Premier League is getting worrisome and is a huge concern for them as they are D2 L5 in their last seven at St James’ Park, scoring just the three goals in that sequence of home games. Because they are facing Burnley, then under 1.5 goals at Betfair looks a pretty solid option. Newcastle are just sorely lacking quality in the final third of the pitch and they don’t look to be actively on the hunt to spend money to solve the problem. They have tallied ten home goals only this season, while defensively they haven’t been too bad with 14 shipped in 12 home games. They have failed to score in 50% of their games on Tyneside and just 33% of their home fixtures get above 2.5 goals. Newcastle have been leading at half time just twice this term at home so half time draw looks decent. Only bottom side Swansea have a worse home record than they do.

Burnley News and Form

Burnley are having issues with their form at the moment as well as they have not collected a victory since beating Stoke 1-0 in early December. That is just a D3 L4 record in their last seven league games and they head into this one on a three-match losing streak. The goals have dried up for them, not that they were prolific anyway. But the Clarets have failed to score in five of their last seven fixtures. Overall this season they are W4 D5 L3 on the road which is pretty good but they are winless in five away from Turf Moor. They have taken a draw in three of their last four road games so that does hint that they could dig in and avoid defeat at St James’ Park. The Clarets have scored only the eleven away goals this season while they have conceded at an average of one goal exactly per away game. 73% of their goals away from Turf Moor have come in the first half of matches, while they have shipped two-thirds of their away goals in the second half of games. Only two sides in the league have currently scored fewer league goals than Burnley have done this season (Brighton and Swansea) and they are three behind Newcastle heading into this fixture. Both teams not to score at Betfair screams appeal.

Newcastle v Burnley Head to Head

There was a tight game between these two back at the end of October as the Magpies slipped to a 1-0 loss at Turf Moor. That means that Burnley are unbeaten in their last four contests against Newcastle now with a D2 L2 record. However, the Clarets have failed to win any of their last four visits to St James’ Park now with a D2 L2 record up on Tyneside. Four of the last six meetings between the two clubs have gone under 2.5 goals.

Newcastle v Burnley Predictions

Draw: There should be enough in this one for Burnley to get a draw out of. Newcastle are lacking up front and while they have their moments in games, they don’t sustain much of a threat over 90 minutes. Burnley would be happy enough with a point and back the visitors to get it.
