It is fair to say that most punters are expecting Everton’s Marco Silva to be the next Premier League manager out of a job. With Tottenham, Arsenal and Watford all making recent managerial changes, that has just ramped up the pressure on anyone else who is already feeling the heat.

Feeling more exposed are Silva who is the 4/9 favourite to be the next EPL boss to face the chop and Manchester United’s Ole Gunnar Solksjaer who is 4/1 second-favourite* (Betting odds taken from Betfair on December 3rd, 2019 at 5:41 pm).

Who next for Everton if Silva goes?

But focusing on the potential likelihood that Silva would get the push first, as Everton’s season has fallen into disarray, who would be a likely replacement? The Toffees head into the midweek Merseyside derby against Liverpool only two points above the relegation zone.

This situation has been made all the more bitter because they had head-hunted Silva for so long. They saw him as the man to really take them forward, but it has been a failed relationship, pretty much from the get-go in terms of results.

Gallardo moved to odds-on favourite

The name at the head of the Next Everton Permanent Manager market is one totally out of the left field. It is Marcelo Gallardo who seems to be taking the bulk of the interest. The Argentine is the current manager of River Plate, only the second managerial job he has taken. The 43-year-old is under contract at River Plate until the end of 2021.

His only other brief managerial appointment happened at Uruguay’s Nacional, the club at which he ended his career. He is seen as being flexible with his tactics and small rumours were floating around that Barcelona could be interested in Gallardo, who guided his River Plate to the 2019 Copa Libertadores final.

Moyes to return?

David Moyes is the 13/8 second-favourite to be the next Everton manager* (Betting odds taken from Betfair on December 3rd, 2019 at 5:41 pm). He was the one who brought the club so much stability during his long tenure with the Merseysiders. However, since leaving to join Manchester United as Sir Alex Ferguson’s replacement, Moyes; managerial career has taken a nosedive. Would the club be interested in an approach for Moyes, maybe to add a bit of grit if they are facing a battle to stay up?

Another option could be Eddie Howe. The Bournemouth boss has seen his team hit a slump and he is someone who likes to play an open, fluent game. The Cherries are on a four-match losing streak after a loss against Crystal Palace in midweek and so Howe could be feeling a bit of pressure. But the relationship between him and the club seems pretty rock solid and at the moment the switch wouldn’t be a step up in circumstances.

Familiar names in focus

There is Rafa Benitez as an outside option, who is on a high-paying contract out in China. So while he could be tempted back to Merseyside, the former Liverpool manager would cost a pretty penny to get. Phil Neville, who is having a tough time with England Women’s team makes the list of potential contenders as well.

Unai Emery would be available for the Toffees after just having gotten sacked by Arsenal while Mark Hughes could be someone to consider if Everton are looking at nothing much more than a survival strap. Former defender David Unsworth is a 20/1 early outsider option as well* (Betting odds taken from Betfair on December 3rd, 2019 at 5:41 pm).
