Lionel Messi to make a move to Inter Milan was all the rage on Friday. The Italians were slashed from 50/1 down to 5/1 by Paddy Power after an influx of bets on the Argentinean heading to the San Siro* (betting odds taken from Paddy Power at 21:05 GMT on Saturday, 11th April 2020).

There have been plenty of stories out there countering any rumour that Messi is going anywhere. Even the player said that he has been at the centre of fake transfer speculations. So this flurry of bets on him moving to Inter have come out of the blue.

Would Messi leave Barca?

Messi is under contract at Barcelona under 2021. However, the little genius has a clause in his contract which could see him leave in the summer of 2020. For free.

Rumours about him leaving the Catalan giants are not exactly new. But he is coming towards the end of his career and there has been some turmoil behind the scenes at the Nou Camp.

Two of their vice-presidents along with members of the board quit last week over the way that the club was being run.

So Messi to Inter? It still seems a bit unlikely. Even though Inter Milan have been backed to be Messi’s next club, they are far from the favourites in the market.

Manchester City are still the favourites to be Lionel Messi’s next permanent club. The Argentinean would likely be reuniting with Pep Guardiola if that move were to happen. It would certainly light up the English Premier League.

There is also a stronger likelihood that he could head home to play in Argentina to see out his playing days.

But how about the mouth-watering prospect that Juventus could go after him? That could lead to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi playing for the same team.

Juve are 4/1 to be Messi’s next club* (betting odds taken from Paddy Power at 21:05 GMT on Saturday, 11th April 2020).
