When and where is the USPGA Championship 2022?

The 104th edition of the USPGA Championship is being hosted at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

It was set to be hosted at the Trump National in Bedminster, but it was moved.

The tournament runs from May 19th through to 22nd and the course is going to play to 7,556 yards at Par 70.

About Southern Hills Country Club

The setting for the 2022 USPGA Championship has hosted some major events before.

The first of those was in 1958 when the US Open visited.

The venue has also hosted the PGA Championship alongside other US Open tournaments.

This will be the fifth time that Southern Hills Country Club has hosted the USPGA Championship.

Here are the dates of the previous occasions along with the winners.

  • 1970 PGA Championship – Dave Stockton
1882 PGA Championship – Raymond Floyd
1994 PGA Championship – Nick Price
2007 PGA Championship – Tiger Woods

Who qualifies for the US PGA Championship golf?

There are criteria set out for gaining entry into the PGA Championship and at the top of the list is that all previous winners of the tournament are eligible to play.

They are joined by the winners of the Masters from the last five editions, the last five US Open winners and the most recent Open Championship winners as well.

Winners of The Players Championship and the previous Olympic Golf gold also get a place.

The list of criteria goes on, and it’s designed to ensure that the field is largely made up of only the most consistent-performing top players in the world.

Invitees fill out the field which is at 156 for the start of the tournament.

Who won the 201 PGA Championship?

Last year’s edition of the PGA Championship was hosted at Kiawah Island in South Carolina in mid-May.

50-year-old Phil Mickelson lifted the title at the Ocean Course which saw spectators return to the tournament.

That was the second PGA Championship title for Mickelson in his career.

With it, he set a new record for the oldest player to win one of golf’s majors in the process.

After a steady first round, Mickelson caught fire in the second, firing off five birdies down the back nine to finish the second day joint top of the leaderboard alongside Louis Oosthuizen.

At the end of the third round, Mickelson was the sole leader, holding a one-stroke advantage over fellow American Brooks Koepka.

The final round saw Mickelson make a dodgy start as he bogeyed the fourth but was two ahead of Koepka at the turn and went on to hold on for the victory.

There is no title defence being made by Phil Mickelson this year as he has withdrawn.

Our betting prediction:
Jordan Spieth
16/1

Who is the favourite in US PGA Championship Golf Odds 2022?

Scottie Scheffler is a narrow 11/1 favourite in US PGA Championship golf betting currently* (odds recorded at 19:25 GMT on May 16th, 2022 at Ladbrokes).

He is just about the hottest ticket in the game at the moment and has been since February.

Scheffler has, to put it simply, been red hot.

There have been four titles by the American in his last eight events and another top ten finish can be thrown into that.

The peak of Scheffler’s 2022 form came at the Masters when he took the title there, so he’s looking for a spectacular major double in 2022.

On his debut PGA Championship appearance in 2020, Scheffler carded a fourth-place finish.

Leading contenders

John Rahm

Jon Rahm claimed a victory in April at the Mexico Championship, his first title of the year.

The Spaniard needed that to really get back on track as his form prior to it had dipped a bit.

Rahm has been to the PGA Championship five times before, carding a couple of top ten finishes along with a missed cut in mixed results.

Rahm is one of the leading players in the world, and he got his major breakthrough in winning last year’s US Open.

He doesn’t look to be in the greatest of form at the moment, however, but can’t be ruled out.

US PGA Championship Golf Tip: Jon Rahm 12/1
* (odds recorded at 19:25 GMT on May 16th, 2022 at Ladbrokes)

Rory McIlroy

McIlroy put in a big shift at this year’s Masters to take the runner up spot behind Phil Mickelson at Augusta.

The Nothern Ireland star has won this major a couple of times before in his career.

Those were a while ago, the PGA Championship titles coming in 2012 and 2014.

It’s been over seven years since McIlroy last won a major anywhere.

But with six other top-ten finishes along with his victories from 13 previous appearances at the US PGA Championship, McIlroy should be a solid contender.

A good Wells Fargo Championship finish as well this season should put him in it, but he may need to raise his consistency with the putter.

US PGA Championship Golf Tip: Rory McIlroy 14/1

Collin Morikawa

There have been only two previous PGA Championship appearances made by Collin Morikawa.

But those were very good ones as they returned a victory and a top ten finish.

It hasn’t been a bad year for him, taking four top-ten finishes from ten events played in the calendar year.

Morikawa has taken a fairly long rest ahead of this, not having played since mid-April.

Tournament history means that he cannot be written out at all.

US PGA Championship Golf Tip: Collin Morikawa 16/1
* (odds recorded at 19:25 GMT on May 16th, 2022 at Ladbrokes)

Jordan Spieth

Going for a gol major slam is Jordan Speith and that’s a great story to follow for this year’s US PGA Championship golf tips.

His recent form puts him bang in it as well.

Spieth has taken a victory and a runner-up spot in back to back events over the last couple of weeks so he is heading to Oklahoma in big form.

It’s only the PGA Championship that is missing from his list of major honours.

From nine previous attempts, he has made the top ten on three occasions, the best being a 2nd place finish in 2015.

US PGA Championship Golf Betting Tip: Jordan Spieth 16/1

Others to watch in US PGA Championship Tips

Xander Schauffele picked up the Zurich Classic in April, his first victory since his red hot start to 2019. That will have taken some pressure off of his game and he followed up well at the Byron Nelson too. So there is rising form from Schauffele as he looks to break his major maiden.

US PGA Championship Golf Tip: Xander Schauffele 22/1
* (odds recorded at 19:25 GMT on May 16th, 2022 at Ladbrokes)

Hideki Matsuyama can’t be counted out of this as he is another heading to Tulsa with some current good form. The 2021 Masters winner has taken three other wins since then and took a credible top 15 at this year’s Masters. He was in fine nick recently in the Byron Nelson carding under 70 in all four rounds to take third. That was his reappearance after having taken some time off.

US PGA Championship Golf Tip: Hideki Matsuyama 28/1
* (odds recorded at 19:25 GMT on May 16th, 2022 at Ladbrokes)

Cameron Young is probably going to attract plenty of attention in US PGA Championship golf betting this week. He has made quite the splash during his first pro season, banking a couple of runner up spots and taking more than $3 million in prize money already. The Masters 2022 didn’t pan out for him as he missed the cut, but has since returned to fine form.

US PGA Championship Golf Betting Tip: Cameron Young 70/1

Tiger Woods PGA Championship Odds 2022

Tiger Woods is scheduled to put in an appearance at the US PGA Championship this week.

Woods is a quote of 66/1 to land the title* (odds recorded at 19:25 GMT on May 16th, 2022 at Ladbrokes).

Woods made his reappearance after injury at the Masters and was never going to be in contention there.

But he did make the cut and took 47th place from 13-over par.

Woods is a four-time winner of the PGA Championship with the first of those coming in 1999 before successfully defending it the following year.

His other two PGA Championship titles happened in back to back years as well, landing the title in 2006 and 0207.

One of those PGA Champsionhip title Woods earned at Southern Hills.

In eight appearances at the event since his last title, Woods has taken two runners-up finishes.

US PGA Championship Golf Tips Predictions

The top PGA Championship tip 2022 is Jordan Spieth and not just because the American is searching for a slam.

Take that out of the picture and he is in terrific form at the moment and really enjoying his game.

Spieth’s form is on point and from 16/1 in golf betting could be a big contender* (odds recorded at 19:25 GMT on May 16th, 2022 at Ladbrokes).

Hideki Matsuyama is very interesting in his field after taking a third-place finish at the AT&T Byron Nelson recently.

That was four very solid rounds of golf and last year’s Masters winner, who has made two previous top-five finishes at the PGA Championship, is worth considering at 28/1* (odds recorded at 19:25 GMT on May 16th, 2022 at Ladbrokes).
