Three points for the Cottagers

Reading v Fulham Betting Tips – EFL Championship, 1st October 20.00pm

Scott Parker takes his Fulham troops to the Madejski Stadium to play Jose Gomes’ Reading on Tuesday. The Cottages got back to winning ways in the EFL Championship last time out, while the Royals stopped a run of three consecutive league losses. The London outfit head to Berkshire as the favourites, with the bookies pricing them at evens. However, can Reading secure their first home win since mid-August?

Reading News and Form – Can the Royals claim a surprise win?

Reading have made an indifferent start to their Championship season, as the Royals have won two, drawn two and lost five so far. After nine matches, Reading occupy a lowly 20th place in the table on eight points.

However, after losing three games in a row to Charlton Athletic, Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers, the Addicks picked up a handy point at Swansea City last time out. An excellent goal by Andy Yiadom in injury time gave the Royals a deserved 1-1 draw in South Wales.

Reading have really struggled at the Madejski Stadium this season. The Berkshire club kicked off their league campaign with a 3-1 home loss to Sheffield Wednesday. Gomes’ boys then picked up an excellent victory over Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City, running riot in a 3-0 win. Since then, however, Reading have lost at home to Charlton (2-0) and Blackburn (2-1).

It could be another long, hard season for the club. The last two campaigns have been a struggle, and two wins from nine signals another poor start. However, can they follow up last weekend’s positive result at the Liberty Stadium with another one on Tuesday?

Reading v Fulham Head to Head

In the 2017-18 Championship season, Fulham took four points from the two fixtures

These two met in a two-legged Championship play-off semi-final in May 2017, with Reading winning 2-1 on aggregate

When the teams last met at the Madejski, they played out a 1-1 draw

Fulham have not won in Berkshire in over 11 years – in a Premier League game back in April 2008

Key-Facts – Reading v Fulham

  • The Royals have taken just one point from four games
  • Fulham won for the first time in over a month last weekend
  • The Cottagers are seven points above Reading in the Championship table

Fulham News and Form – Two victories on the spin for the Cottagers?

After seeing off Blackburn, Huddersfield and Millwall in successive Championship matches in August, Fulham went on a four-game winless run, picking up three draws and a defeat. Still, the club returned to winning ways last weekend.

Scott Parker’s men were too good for Wigan Athletic at Craven Cottage, with Joe Bryan and Tom Cairney scoring in the 2-0 victory. The Whites had almost 60% possession and six shots on target in the important win.

Fulham are unbeaten away from home since losing 1-0 to Barnsley at Oakwell on the opening weekend of the season. However, since beating Huddersfield 2-1 at the John Smith’s Stadium, the Cottagers have drawn their last two on the road (at Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday). Meanwhile, in the Premier League last season, the Londoners picked up just one away victory.

After a month of indifferent results, Fulham returned to winning ways with a big three points at Craven Cottage in their last outing. Can they now do the business on the road this Tuesday? The bookmakers are pricing the Whites at evens to take all three points home to the capital.

Reading v Fulham Predictions

Fulham win: Fulham had a disastrous season in the Premier League last year, going on to finish second from bottom with just 26 points to their name. However, the Cottagers will want an instant return to the top tier, and the London club are priced at 6/5 for promotion. Meanwhile, Fulham are second favourites behind Leeds United to win the title at 11/2.

However, their form away from home will need to improve, as the Cottagers have won just one of four on the road. After easing past Wigan at the weekend, though, Fulham will fancy their chances of sealing back-to-back wins. At the tempting price of evens, my money is going on the away victory here.

Serbia international Aleksandar Mitrovic has scored eight times for club and country so far this season. However, the 25-year-old has failed to net in his last three Championship appearances for Fulham. Mitrovic is available at the very tempting odds of 15/4 to open the scoring at the Madejski Stadium on Tuesday night.
