The weekend will begin with Sheffield United starting in the top ten in the Premier League. They can be delighted with their returns so far, but surprisingly the bulk of their points have come away from home. Like in their success at Everton last weekend. It was expected that they would be surviving on home results. But they are only W1 L2 in their three home games so far. They opened with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at Bramall Lane, but have since suffered back-to-back one-goal margin losses against Leicester and Southampton.
It has been only the one clean sheet earned in this season’s Premier League by the Blades. That was in their win over Palace. Sheffield United have had to chase a lot of games because they have conceded the opening goal in four of their six fixtures. You would kind of expect that for a newly promoted club. Sheffield United have been level at half time in half of their league games. The big positive is their defence. Liverpool and Leicester are the only two sides in the top flight with a better defensive record than the Blades this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool survived a tough challenge at Stamford Bridge last weekend. They were 2-0 up at halftime against Chelsea but were never quite out of the picture. Chelsea created more than enough chances against a Liverpool defence which again looked unsure of itself, to have gotten something from the game. But the Reds saw it out to get the 2-1 victory. That moved them on to six straight wins this season and winning ugly is a nice ability to have in your arsenal.
But there are cracks in Liverpool’s defence. They have taken only one clean sheet in this campaign. But they can paper over cracks at the back with their attack. Liverpool have scored at least two goals in all of their league games this season. They have put together a seven-match winning streak away from home (taking two clean sheets in that sequence). Liverpool are undefeated in their last eleven away games. Will they be extending their fantastic record for the season and put some more pressure on Man City?
