Southampton News and Form

Southampton couldn’t hold out against West Ham on Thursday night at St Mary’s, losing 2-1 against the Hammers. The Saints had won back to back games against Arsenal and Huddersfield before that. It leaves Southampton with just a W1 D5 L3 record for the season on home soil. They have produced the ten goals in their home games this season. Most of those have been recent as well. Six of their ten home goals have been scored in their last three at St Marys. The Saints have shipped 14 goals in their nine home fixtures and 67% of games at St Marys have gone over 2.5 goals. A third of league fixtures at St Mary’s have produced at least four goals

Southampton are looking for just their third home clean sheet of the season having struggled defensively all term. They have not earned a clean sheet in any of their last nine Premier League fixtures (home and away). They haven’t managed to earn one in any of their last four on the south coast. Just once this season have the Saints been behind at the halftime break on home soil (W3 D5). Southampton have conceded at least two goals in each of their last three home games, which could spell trouble going up against City’s powerful attack. 71% of their goals conceded at St Marys have been in the second half of fixtures

Manchester City News and Form

Manchester City are off the boil after losing at Leicester On Boxing Day and this is now a huge test of their character. It’s all going wrong defensively for them at the moment as they have slumped to a W1 L3 record in their last four top-flight games. They are at back to back away defeats as well at the moment too. City’s defence have shipped eight goals in their last four league games and there have been some really strange lapses in their back line. They still look as good as ever going forward though. Manchester City just have not taken a clean sheet in any of their last six league outings. Overall this season Man City have posted a W5 D2 L2 away record

Eight of City’s last nine league games have gone over 2.5 goals and on the road City have scored 16 goals, conceding just the six. Four of their six away goals conceded have been in the last two on the road. In 56% of their away games City have taken a clean sheet and less than half of their road games have made it over 2.5 goals. Manchester City have no clean sheet in their last three away games though. Of their away goals scored, 62% of them have been in the first period of games. Their halftime record on their travels is at W5 D3 L1. The Citizens have opened the scoring in six of their nine away games. City are the top scorers in the league this season and only Liverpool have conceded fewer.

Southampton v Manchester City Predictions

Man City to win: There will be major inquiries if City lose this one. It’s a bad run of December form from them, but they are still easily the better of the two sides here. We are predicting the away win, but also feel it is worth backing both teams to score.
