Tottenham News and Form

It was a W12 D2 L5 record that Spurs produced at home in the top flight last season. It was another good, strong season from them. They did run out of steam a bit at the end of the season though, perhaps the toll of a successful Champions League campaign got to them. Tottenham only managed to win three of their last dozen Premier League games. You would have to think their European season caught up with them.

But of the three wins in that sequence, they were all at home. In total Spurs only lost one of their last nine home games of the campaign. The Lilywhites were victorious in all of their home games against teams who finished 11th or lower at the end of the season. So it was only against the stronger teams where they struggled. Tottenham averaged 1.8 goals per home game last season, conceding at an average of 0.8 per fixture.

Spurs took a clean sheet in 37% of their EPL home games. Seven of the twelve home wins that Spurs took were by a margin of at least two goals. Tottenham were ahead at the half time break in nine home games last season. Their big summer signing saw them break the club record to get midfielder Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon.

  • Villa have made a clutch of summer signings

Aston Villa News and Form

Villa are back in the top flight and to help try and ensure that they stay there, they have been spending. They have made twelve summer signings but that, of course, doesn’t guarantee anything. Just ask Fulham. Boss Dean Smith has a lot on his hands to get all this gelled together for the start of the season. A big help has been getting keeper Tom Heaton into the club.

Other arrivals have been Jota from Birmingham, Wesley, Trezeguet and Douglas Luiz. It was a fifth-place finish that the Villains took in the Championship last season, and towards the end of the campaign, they were just unplayable. Aston Villa managed to put together a ten-match winning streak to secure their playoff position.

This is the first time back in among the elite of English football since 2016 when they were relegated. That was a disastrous day for the Midlands club, but their resources have helped them make a return. Do they have enough about them to survive what is going to be a challenging season?

They have to have a strong season at home. Anything out of a difficult away game like this is going to be a bonus. The Villains produced a W9 D8 L6 record on their Championship travels last season.

Tottenham v Aston Villa Predictions

Spurs to win: We would lean towards a Spurs to win to nil option for this Saturday evening kick-off. They are a pretty reliable team on home soil and have more than enough in their midfield to dominate possession. Aston Villa have to find their feet in the top flight. That could take a few games. Spurs to win to nil.
