Tottenham v Liverpool Betting Preview – Premier League 22nd October 4.00pm

This is the feature match of the Premier League weekend. It’s not been plain sailing for Tottenham at Wembley this season, but overall their form in the Premier League is picking up pace and their title credentials will be tested as Liverpool come for a visit. Liverpool’s form has been very shaky recently in the top flight and they have been having their struggles in putting wins on the board. Will they be able to survive a tough test at the in-form Spurs?

Tottenham v Liverpool Betting Tips

Tottenham performed well to play out a 1-1 draw with Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League in midweek and they can take a lot of confidence from that. The Lilywhites didn’t just go to the Bernabeu to defend either, which was bold. Spurs are on a six match unbeaten streak of form back in the Premier League with a W4 D2 record on the board. They are on a three match winning streak at the moment in the top flight and are on song. Their form at Wembley in the league hasn’t been great this season as it is only W1 D2 L1 but they got their first league win there last weekend when they took down Bournemouth with a 1-0 result thanks to Cristian Eriksen. This too will likely be a tight one and under 2.5 goals at bet365 is a quote of 6/5. Just 25% of Tottenham’s home games this season have gone over the 2.5 goal line and each of the last four league meetings between them and Liverpool have gone under.

Tottenham are in much better form at the moment than Liverpool are and therefore a Tottenham to win to nil option at bet365 fetches a price of 10/3. Harry Kane is the 13/5 First Goalscorer favourite for the game while Christian Eriksen is always a good anytime goalscorer option at 11/4. Tottenham have only gone up against one side from last season’s final top four this term and that ended in a home defeat for them against Chelsea. But with Liverpool not fully in their stride at the moment, this could be a good time for the Lilywhites to be meeting Liverpool. Spurs start the weekend in third place, five points behind leaders Man City, while Liverpool are four points back of them. But the big concern for punters may be the head to head form from recent games between these two which is not in favour of the home side. Spurs are winless in their last nine Premier League games against the Reds in a D3 L6 record.

But you have Liverpool who had some big title expectations at the start of the season, who are struggling to put the pieces together. They have posted just a W3 D4 L1 record this season in the top flight and have only managed the one league win in their last six outings, which isn’t good enough to keep pace with the two Manchester clubs. Strangely, for an attack-minded side, the goals have dried up with only the five netted in their last five Premier League games. They should have taken some confidence though from firing seven past Maribor in the Champions League in the week. Liverpool and defensive issues go hand in hand, but they have taken three clean sheets this season in the top flight and conceded just one goal in two of their other games. Apart from defensive blunders against Watford, Man City and Leicester, they haven’t been terrible. Both teams to score at bet365 is a price of 7/4.

Liverpool have Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino as their shortest priced option in the anytime goalscorer market at 7/4. Mohamed Salah is their top scorer with four goals this season though and he can be backed at 15/8 to net. Liverpool have recorded a W1 D2 L1 record so far out on their travels this season in the top flight, averaging 1.75 goals per game. They have conceded an average of 2.75 goals per away game. They were on top at home against Manchester United last weekend but couldn’t find a way through despite a clutch of chances and had to settle for a 0-0 draw. They will face an equally stubborn Tottenham defence as well. Liverpool are currently four points worse off than they were at this stage last season with five fewer goals on the board after eight games.

Tottenham v Liverpool Predictions

Tottenham to win: Spurs haven’t been as clinical on home soil this season but they have the quality to see off a Liverpool side who have weaknesses in their game at the moment. Spurs are carrying the form and get the win on the board in what is likely going to be a low scoring affair in the capital.
