Watford News and Form

Twelve months ago Watford got themselves off to a flying start in the Premier League. They won their first four games of the campaign. This season’s their start hasn’t gone quite so well. They have lost their opening two games without scoring a single goal. The only other side to not score in their opening two games this season is Crystal Palace. So with the Hornets having averaged two goals per game against them already, Javi Gracia’s men look to be in a spot of early bother. A win at Vicarage Road on the weekend would lift spirits.

Watford claimed a W8 D3 L8 record at home last season in the top flight. They didn’t finish the campaign all that strongly on home soil. They took only the one point from their final four home fixtures. If you take into consideration their two games played this season on top of their end of season form from the last term, then Watford are without a clean sheet in 14 games now. There’s a pretty big problem there. The Hornets have shipped at least one goal in each of their last seven EPL home games. Can they sort themselves out with a win?

Watford v West Ham Head to Head

The two traded away wins last season
Three of the last four meetings have ended in a 2-0 scoreline
Things are even at two wins each in the last four EPL meetings

Key-Facts – Watford v West Ham

  • The Hammers are unbeaten in their last three away games
  • The Hornets have no clean sheet in seven home EPL games
  • Watford are yet to score in this season’s EPL

West Ham News and Form

The Hammers lost their opening game of the season. They can be excused for having done so because they were up against Manchester City. West Ham lost 5-0. But then they showed a decent amount of character to get themselves a 1-1 draw at Brighton last weekend. Sure it was not the win that they would have wanted, but a loss in the game would have left their confidence rocked. So the question is, can they build on that away point now out on the road again this weekend?

The Hammers did some good transfer business in the summer, but club-record signing Sebastian Haller isn’t up and running yet. He looks like he can get among the goals once he has settled in, given his record in the Bundesliga for Eintracht Frankfurt. West ham collected a win in their last two away games in the 2018/19 campaign. Their last one, which was also their final game of the entire season, saw the Irons claim a 4-1 win at Vicarage Road. So with the Hammers undefeated in three away from home in the top flight, and with Watford all at sea early on, the away win isn’t without its appeal. West Ham’s away record last season in the Premier League was W6 D3 L10.

Watford v West Ham Predictions

West Ham to win: There’s not going to be much of a better time for West Ham to go to Vicarage Road. Watford have misfired so far this season and even though the Hammers are yet to win, they got over their big opening defeat against Man City with a point last weekend. They may have the edge up front. Away win.
