Baggies can heap more pressure on the Potters

Championship Betting

West Brom v Stoke Betting Tips – Championship, 1st September 3.00pm

Just last season this was a Premier League fixture and since dropping down to the Championship, things haven’t gone particularly well for either of these. So this will be a big clash between them at the Hawthorns on the weekend with the Baggies holding a two-point advantage over the Potters. Stoke are looking for just their second league win of the season. Read our predictions for West Brom v Stoke.

West Brom News and Form

West Brom will be at full strength for this game so boss Darren Moore doesn’t have any issues on that front. They will probably stay pretty much as they were for their trip to Middlesbrough last weekend. They suffered a loss there, a 1-0 defeat against a very strong side though after being level at the half time break.

The Baggies have been drawing at half time in all five of their league game this season. The half time draw at bet365 appeals greatly in this one at 11/10 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from August 29th, 2018 at 6:35 p.m.). So there is a good trend running there.

This will be the third league home game for the Baggies this season. Their first ended in defeat against Bolton and then they hammered QPR 7-1. They had produced good back to back wins over Norwich and QPR before that slip against Boro last weekend.

So there were signs that they were starting to get it together. Jay Rodriguez has been sharp in front of goal for them this season and he makes for a great anytime goalscorer option in this game at 13/8 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from August 29th, 2018 at 6:35 p.m.).

Stoke News and Form

It has been a strange season from the Potters. So much more was expected of them. They got just the two points in their first four games of the season. They made it their first win of the season last weekend as they posted a 2-0 home success over Hull.

So that should have given them a lift of confidence. They have looked really unstable at the back though and we are struggling to see how they get a clean sheet out of this game. We are going to push for both teams to score at 5/6 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from August 29th, 2018 at 6:35 p.m.).

Defender Ashley Williams returns after his suspension last weekend and returning to the attack could be Benik Afobe and Bojan who were both used as substitutes last weekend. But we have to go back to their defence as Stoke have shipped five goals in two away games.

There was a heavy loss at Leeds and then a 2-2 draw at Preston. They were trailing at half time in both of those games and two-thirds of their goals overall this season conceded have been in the first half of matches.

West Brom v Stoke Head to Head

This corresponding fixture from the Premier League last season ended in a 1-1 draw. Overall Stoke picked up four points from the two league meetings. Notably, though that is the only win that the Potters have picked up in their last seven games against West Brom in the league. The Baggies have a W3 D1 record in their last four home games against Stoke.

West Brom v Stoke Predictions

West Brom to win: The home win has the most appeal for us in our West Brom v Stoke predictions. The Baggies were just showing enough before they crashed into the very strong Middlesbrough last weekend, to suggest that they can take down a pretty average looking Stoke side.
