West Ham News and Form – Can the Hammers beat Manchester United?

West Ham earned a point in a 0-0 draw against Aston Villa last weekend. They missed out on their chance to make it three wins in a row. Still, they are in good shape, proving hard to beat and it has been back to back clean sheets for Manuel Pellegrini’s men. They started up on home soil with a heavy defeat against Manchester City but have responded well with a four-match unbeaten streak.

In their one other home game, they played out a 2-0 win over Norwich. Just one of their last four games have gone over 2.5 goals. Sebastien Haller has made a good start following his summer moved, netting three times in West Ham’s last three games. Two-thirds of West Ham’s goals this season have been after the half time break.

They have conceded over 70% of their goals in the second period of fixtures as well. However, West Ham have opened the scoring in three of their five games, conceding just one opening goal in the entire campaign. It’s hard to say that there has been anything spectacular about West Ham. But they are solid and have a nice bit of form going for them.

Manchester United News and Form – Can Red Devils snap poor away form?

Last weekend Manchester United ground out a 1-0 win against Leicester at Old Trafford. That snapped a three-match run of no wins in the top flight. They had Europa League action in midweek when a very young team took a 1-0 win over Astana in a game low on quality and creativity. There has, overall, been a lack of creative play about Manchester United.

It is a W2 D2 L1 record that they have posted so far in the Premier League. Their one loss was at home against Crystal Palace. Both of United’s away games have both ended in a 1-1 draw. Those were games against Southampton and Wolves. Within their three games after this one, United have to play both Arsenal and Liverpool, so have a tough little run coming up.

United won’t want to drop points in this one. However, their away form overall is pretty poor. Going back to the end of last season as well, United have failed to win any of their last six Premier League away games. They have taken a D3 L3 record in that sequence. It has been no clean sheet on the road in seven for them.

West Ham v Manchester United Predictions

West Ham to win: It is one of those scenarios where you just can’t help but see a little bit of value on the underdog here. The Hammers to win at home looks a solid proposition here. They may be able to get something out of this one against a Manchester United side who have no away form.
