Ladbrokes launch Premier League 2016/17 betting specials

Will records tumble in next season's campaign?

Ladbrokes have priced up some good specials ahead of the start of the new Premier League season. While the action doesn’t start until early August, there are still plenty of betting markets open to get your teeth into at the moment, starting with their quote of 4/1 on any side in the division to go and set a new points record this season.

Chelsea’s 95 point haul back in the 2004/05 season is the current bench mark so will anyone top that amount next season? That would need an average of over 2.5 goals so it’s a tough old feat, but this year’s Premier League title is likely going to be a wide open scrap again as it would have been last season with Chelsea not being in the picture.

During that 2004/05 title campaign for the Blues, keeper Petr Cech picked up 21 clean sheets, the most managed in a single Premier League season ever and Ladbrokes quote 9/2 on that record being beaten by someone between the sticks next season. With the evenness of the big guns in the top flight, that’s going to be a bit of a stretch but the looks of it, but not as big of a stretch as the 9/1 the bookmaker has on a side going unbeaten.

Arsenals’ Invincibles did it of course, but the signs would suggest that that’s not likely to happen this year. There is a great market that Ladbrokes have priced up and that is 8/1 for any side NOT in European competition to win the Premier League, with Leicester City and Chelsea having done just that in the last two seasons. Celery the extra burden of European campaigns can blight the domestic effort and it is a factor.

At the other end of the table, Ladbrokes are offering 5/1 on a new lowest points total being set. That’s going to take some beating as the worst ever points return in a single Premier League season was Derby County’s 11 back in the 2007/08 season. Coming up this season to the Premier League are Bright and Huddersfield along with Newcastle, but it is the former two who are favourites to go back down.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Interest in the new Premier League campaign is really heating up right now, and our traders are fancying a few records to be broken throughout the season.”

“That 5/1 on any side recording a lesser points tally than Derby County suggests Huddersfield or Brighton could be in for a tough time of things, while at 4/1 we’d hardly be surprised to see any side picking up 96 points or more.”
