Fusil Raffles the one to beat at Cheltenham in Novices' Chase

Horse Racing Betting

There is a big day of racing from Cheltneham on Saturday and race 3 in this Cheltenham Novices’ Chase. This is a Grade 2 contest over a 2m trip.

It is only a field of six which has been declared and the fixture is open to horses 4 years old and above.

Of the six runners declared it is FUSIL RAFFLES who is a strong market leader.

Last year’s winner of this fixture was 5 year old PUT THE KETTLE ON who scored from a 5/1 SP (Aidan Coleman / H De Bromhead).

Fusil Raffles the 11/8 FAV for Cheltenham Novices’ Chase

So heading up the market strongly is FUSIL RAFFLES at 11/8* (betting odds taken from William Hill 23:11 GMT on Friday 13th November 2020).

Just back in October he was a comfortable winner here at Cheltenham and will have plenty of backing on his return.

That success was at course and distance and he won by nine and a half lengths in a quick time.

So Fusil Raffles checks a lot of boxes and is really stepping it up in chasing now.

That’s two wins from two for him this season over the bigger stuff.

The first of those wins was over GUMBALL at Uttoxeter. Trained by Nicky Henderson, Fusil Raffles is looking like the one to beat on his Cheltenham return.

ZARKAREVA
10/1

Can Gumball turn the tables on Fusil Raffles?

This looks like a big ask for GUMBALL to get the better of Fusil Raffles on form. But Gumball arrives in very good shape for Philip Hobbs.

On his chasing debut at Uttoxeter, he was third behind winner Fusil Raffles.

Following that he stepped out here at Cheltenham over course and distance.

Gumball scored a win in that one and he had plenty to spare as well. He likes to go from the front.

He’s full of promise still, but this is a stiff contest and it’s not just all down to Fusil Raffles that he will have to get the better of.

Gumball is at 10/1 shot for success in racing betting* (betting odds taken from William Hill 23:11 GMT on Friday 13th November 2020).

Zarkava could be the one to watch

This year’s Arkle winner ZARKAREVA looks a big player in this field from 15/2* (betting odds taken from William Hill 23:11 GMT on Friday 13th November 2020).

She got that win at the Festival after having scored at Cheltenham last winter.

She has won both completed efforts over the fences and she arrives in some cracking for as well.

Following a wide-margin win at Sligo, Zarkareva then stepped up to a Grade 3 score at Punchestown on her last effort.

Granted Henry de Bromhead’s filly may need to find a little more here, but she is a fascinating entry in this contest.

She has last year’s winning jockey Aidan Coleman booked as well.

Can Eldorado Allen secure a double?

ELDORADO ALLEN is another who arrives in good form for this Cheltenham trip. He made a winning start to the new season at Newton Abbot last month.

That was also the chasing debut for him, after showing up well as a pretty useful hurdler.

That was an impressive score as he took over a 2m trip last month, getting the better of Stormy Ireland by a couple of lengths.

This does look to be a sterner test, but on the back of that run, Edlrodado Allen is being well respected for the contest at 4/1* (betting odds taken from William Hill 23:11 GMT on Friday 13th November 2020).

Le Patriote with a bit too much to prove?

LE PATRIOTE won his seasonal reappearance as well as he went to Market Rasen just last month he scored a win there on his chasing debut.

But it wasn’t a particularly high-quality field that he took on. So it was something of a facile win for Le Patriote.

He was also helped out by the two other main players in that contest both putting in poor efforts.

So that raises a question about his true form in chasing and it may be worth deferring to others.

Le Patriote is going with the cheek pieces and is out at 10/1* (betting odds taken from William Hill 23:11 GMT on Friday 13th November 2020).

Quel Destin to make a winning return?

This will be the first run of the new season for QUEL DESTIN, the only player in the field yet or have had a trip over the fences.

How much will that work against Paul Nicholls’ charge? He was in action on the flat a month ago, at Bath taking a win there.

That was his first effort anywhere since a wind operation. This may be a lot to ask of him on his chasing debut.

Quel Destin is running at a 4/1 quote for the Cheltenham action on Saturday* (betting odds taken from William Hill 23:11 GMT on Friday 13th November 2020).

Predictions & Tips for Cheltenham Novices’ Chase Racing Odds

This is a very contest with a lot of serious claims knocking around. Let’s start at the head of the market with FUSIL RAFFLES.

Does he look good enough to deliver the win from 11/8* (betting odds taken from William Hill 23:11 GMT on Friday 13th November 2020)?

Yes of course he does, but that’s not exactly the greatest of prices around. He has been right on the money with his jumping form over the bigger stuff, and the recent course and distance win really puts him in the spotlight.

The presence of ZARKAREVA just fascinates us immensely. She has been delivering well over the fences and looks bang in shape at the moment.

The Grade 3 score at Punchestown on her last effort means that we have to put her on the shortlist.

You look at ELDORADO ALLEN and QUEL DESTIN, they both have good futures ahead of them in this sphere.

But we just don’t see enough anywhere to get the better of the favourite.
